Album Notes

Alice Stuart's early career, (1961-1978) found her on stages with Joan Baez, Lightnin' Hopkins, Albert King, Jerry Garcia and John Prine. She made 1 album for Arhoolie Records and 2 for Fantasy, the 1st of which contained the song, Fulltime Woman that was covered by Jackie DeShannon, Irma Thomas & Kate Wolf, among others. In 1974, she toured extensively as Van Morrison's opening act. In 1978, Alice retired to raise her family, but in 1992, she returned to the music business. Since then she has recorded 3 CDs, her latest being Can't Find No Heaven. Alice was one of the first women to front a band not only as a singer and songwriter, but as a gifted guitar player. Her music is a mixture of folk, blues, country and rock. She maintains a very busy schedule teaching, writing and performing. Now, 60 years young, she is a player, a pioneer and an inspiration.

Alice, you just blew everyone away last New Years Eve, at Waves Restaurant in Ocean Shores. I knew you would be wonderful, and I was so wrong. You were fabulous. Your band was so great, to adjust to a smaller room than you are used to, but I was so proud to bring your wonderful music to Ocean Shores. Thank you so very much for sharing your great and wonderful gift with us. I love you and wish you upon the world, because you will be a blessing.

We, the Executive Committee of the Grays Harbor, WA. Democrats liked her so much when we previewed this CD we hired her to perform as the primary entertainment for our gala dinner and auction on the 12th of November, 2005 at the Quinault Beach Resort in Ocean Shores, WA. She sounds like she KNOWS where it's at, and has been there and done that. Wonderful!

Alice's interpretations of the songs on this album certainly do justice to the originators' titles. She does this without affecting the original blues numbers' styles and adding her own techniques and colors to the music.
