Wow, thick and interesting, sonically unique (aside from the very dated 80's keyboard sounds) this is a great album. Hard edged at times, smooth and silky at others, Alientar will take you on a ride to nowhere and leave you begging for more. Can't wait until the next one, I've listened to this one too many times already. Buy it. Listen. Repeat. It just gets better the more you listen. Sonically, the drums are a little weak sounding (I happen to like really punchy, 'studiofied' drum sounds) like they were recorded live without good mics but the playing is great (if a bit too busy at times, more groove please). Although the keyboards are dated sounding there are still interesting parts at times, but definitely the weakest link. The lead guitar is fantastic although a few hollow sounds, like it was not a real amp, just an effects box. The other guitar is great. Bass is fantastic, tons of different tones, from smooth to aggressive. Vocals are pretty good, not their best feature but hey, they don't try to feature them all the time which I appreciate. Sounds like lots of different people singing which is cool, I like that kind of diversity. But that is all niggling stuff, the reality is a great album, unique and fresh without a feeling of strain to be different. MORE!
