Album Notes

a lily is james vella, better known as the guitar player of the great British instrumentalists yndi halda, of Burnt Toast Vinyl and Big Scary Monsters Records.

born into a musical family - his mother works as a music teacher and he is directly descended from the composers Giuseppe and Luigi Vella - but favouring creative writing over music until his teens, james could hardly play an instrument until he ventured into a guitar shop shortly before his 15th birthday. he formed a band with his best friends (yndi halda), and they learned to play their instruments together whilst struggling with adolescence.

a lily was born out of wide-eyed gentleness and sleey-eyed haze that couldn't be expressed in yndi halda, and so, laptop and guitar in hand, and with a head full of ideas, james began to write computer music.

currently writing love songs for leanna, the entirety of wake:sleep is for her.

REVIEWS

An exceptional ambient album
author: Aaron P.
I rarely give 5 star ratings. Recently, I discovered the brand of music most people are dubbing Electronic:Ambient. The name can full you. Brian Eno is "ambient," Moby does "ambient," and most New Age music is considered "ambient." So, what is A Lily like? Imagine Postal Service with no vocals, a slower tempo, more blips and beeps and just as much melody. Thats BlipPop, or Electro-Acustica or whatever you want to call it. A Lily is just as good as the people considered the best in this type of music: bands like Mum, and Air. This is a wonderful find, and I highly recommend it.
