Album Notes

Con Brio! features players well-known for their contributions to the contemporary jazz scene. Ali Ryerson, one of today's top jazz flutists is well-known for her gorgeous C and alto flute sound; award-winning jazz vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, famous for his ground-breaking 1970's jazz/fusion group Steps Ahead; keyboardist and arranger Pete Levin, a top NY session player and Moog synthesizer pioneer, best known for his 15 year association with the legendary Gil Evans and his 8 year stint with jazz icon Jimmy Giuffre; guitarist/composer Mike DeMicco, long-time guitarist with the Brubeck Brothers; and the original rhythm section from the Pat Metheny Group, bassist Mark Egan and drummer Danny Gottlieb, both at the top of their game in the jazz and contemporary music scene. Ryerson collaborated on this project with arranger Pete Levin. The result is adventurous and contemporary, with a focus on original material by Mainieri, Levin, DeMicco, Giuffre and Abercrombie. The instrumentation is quintet throughout, alternating between vibes and guitar. Fellow jazz flutist Holly Hofmann says of Ali's new album "Your new CD sounds so good, so musical and absolutely genuine. This is the real you." Ali is playing her new autograph Brio! flute.
