notes
In less than one year, Alla Ivanchikova (singer/songwriter/guitarist of the musical project simply called "Alla"), has generated enough waves in the music scene to make the cover of a major regional arts magazine, open for such varying artists as The Butchies, Jump Little Children and Rasputina, and independently record, produce and release her first cd.
Based in Buffalo, NY, this 26 year old transplanted Moscow, Russia native is influenced by the likes of Bikini Kill, Ani Difranco, Patti Smith and Queen. One critic in particular says "The songs are damn good, and anyone who covers Bikini Kill's 'Rebel Girl' is more than alright in my book." - (MH, Artvoice June '02) It's that eclectic mix of influences, classical guitar training and sometimes tongue in cheek lyrical content that give Alla's music a refreshing new take on the underground girl-punk rock that made Kathleen Hanna a household name. It's her innocent but intense stage presence that keep you coming back for more.
Though a politically-charged feminist, Alla's lyrics unconsciously tend to focus more on everyday interpersonal relationships and introspection with lyrics like "I look at yourself, myself in the mirror and I'm trying to guess who's gonna win" and "the woman I love is 38, the woman I love is fucking straight."
Currently out promoting her first release, Missing the Earth, Alla has created a small but loyal following. Looking to expand her fan base across the states without pinning a specific audience, Alla can be found playing in coffee houses, lesbian bars, outdoor festivals and indie rock clubs.

juicy sweet
author: Jane LegionAlla is the best new lesbian band I've heard of since the butchies. "The woman I love" is incredibly catchy, 1971 is beautiful, and "Going Home" was a delightful surprise. I'm eagerly awaiting the next cd!
