Album Notes

Allan Spencer has constructed fine arrangements of the Classics we all love, successfully preserving the overall feel of the pieces while taking advantage of the full range that the marimba quartet has to offer. Underlying these arrangements is an energy level that carries throughout the pieces without rolling over the phrasing. He has also included two original pieces that were written to touch the heart and comfort the soul.

Players of this arrangement have a chance to show off their consistency in technique. With ensemble rolls, powerful dynamic variation, and a melody line moving between parts, these arrangements allow the performers to shine both as individual and ensemble players.

Great little CD for working to. 4 stars not 5 because Seven variations on God Save the King are just a little too many for my partner to handle, which is why I took the CD to work.

We[ a colleague and I] teach marimba, vibes etc. to primary school children. All music, as far as we are concerned, must have structure, be not too esoteric, and be enjoyable to listen to. Too many marimbists have lost the plot, but not Allan Spencer. We will ask Allan for arrangements for our group. The album is a lot of serious music, plus a lot of fun. Graham Answerth.
