Allison's latest full-length release, "Life as Mary" is filled to the brim with sophisticated lyricism and skilled musicianship. Known by many as a dynamic solo performer, Allison's songs are served well by the first class talents of drummer Kevin Heuer and bassist Jake Bradley, the rhythm section behind the much lauded "Vigilantes Of Love." The songs, all originally conceived by Allison at the piano, translate beautifully into the group setting. "I wanted to write songs that could conjure up images for the listener," Allison explains. "Musically, I'm very happy with the direction this album took, everything just seemed to flow together."
Reflecting a deep love for truly great music, Allison's songwriting draws from the emotions and poetry of everyday life. "I tend to write songs about other people's stories and try to imagine myself in that person's perspective." The songs cover a lot of ground stylistically, ranging from the expertly structured pop of songs like "Say Goodbye" and "Perfect Day" to the harder edged rock of songs like "Johnny" and the sensual trip hop of "In My Pocket." The album is elevated to the next level by the excellent production work of engineer Anthony Gravley, allowing this diverse mix of styles to flow seamlessly throughout the disc.

Life As Mary...WOW!
author: Tommy
I saw Allison several years ago at a live show and she had good stuff. I bought her first CD and she had better stuff. I think Life As Mary is the Allison Jarrell CD a lot of us have beening waiting for. It's definately her best work yet, live or recorded. Allison never ceases to amaze me with her varying styles and the things she comes up with. Singer Songwriter Fare, Some Spiritual Pop, A Really Heavy Rock Tune, and I think you'd probably call In My Pocket Trip-Hop. A CD full of great surprises that I was definitely not expecting.

This CD captures a broad scope of emotions and each song offers its own unique elements with thought provoking lyrics and nice arrangements. The music paints vivid pictures in the mind and is very pleasing to the ear. My personal favorite is In My Pocket - very classy, great piano. I also really liked Johnny (I'm a bit of a rocker). I'd also like to mention that Allison has a rather sexy voice.
