Allison Miller was born in good ole' Texarkana, Texas. She was uprooted from a wholesome southern upbringing when her father relocated the Miller family to a quaint mini-farm in the hills of Maryland. On this farm, when Allison was not milking the goats, she began to fiddle with singing and the piano. She tolerated the piano and singing lessons only because she knew her mother would eventually give up and allow Allison to do what she had wanted to do since the womb............DRUM DRUM DRUM!
Allison began playing the drums at age 10 and never turned back.
She moved to New York City in 1996. Since then she has stormed onto the music scene with all of her heart. Allison has performed and recorded with the likes of Natalie Merchant, Nora Jones, Pino Daniele, Kenny Barron, Ray Drummond, Sheila Jordan, Marty Ehrlich, Kitty Margolis, Mike Stern, Rachel Z, Kevin Mahogany, Ingrid Jensen, Paul Bollenback, Barbara Dennerlein, Susan McKeown, Virginia Mayhew, Harvie S, and the band "Betty". Allison has also had the wonderful opportunity to be chosen by the US State Dept. to tour East Africa, Eurasia and Central Southeast Asia as a Jazz Ambassador.
Allison enjoys giving lessons and masterclasses at universities (NYU, U. of Alaska, Elon Univ.,U. of Southern Florida, Berkeley Jazz School, U. of the Pacific, Kutztown U.) and high schools throughout the Unites States. She is also proud member of "The Duke Ellington Legacy". The Legacy is dedicated to educating youth about jazz and the masterful pianist and composer Duke Ellington. Allison is also a spokesperson for the "Hit Like A Girl " campaign, which promotes drumming to young girls. She recently had one of her lessons published in DRUM magazine as well as a feature in Modern Drummer and Female Musician magazine. Allison endorses Yamaha drums, Zildjian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks and mallets, and LP Percussion.
Allison's new album, "5am stroll" (on Foxhaven records) features Allison's original music performed by Alli, Ray Drummond, Steve Wilson, Virginia Mayhew, and Bruce Barth. The great Lenny White produced "5am stroll."
Allison Miller has shown great talent, determination, and a true innate musical ability.
"The superb drumming of relative newcomer Allison Miller revealed that high-quality talent continues to flow into the jazz mainstream." -Don Heckman: LA Times
"Best of all, Miller's drumming was the perfect composite-brawny and swinging where high-voltage propulsion was the appropriate choice, infinitely subtle with accents and trimbres where sound and texture were demanded." -Don Heckman: LA Times
"Check out drummer Allison Miller.....what a nasty, happening lady of grooves. I enjoyed her cymbal sound and the space she uses, too." - Tim Price: Cadence Magazine
"Miller is regarded as one of the new breed of female jazz drummers whose musical talents are taking her to the top of her profession." -Ron Banks: The West Australian

One of the finest
author: Jim E Anderson
This is one of the finest drummer-lead recording sessions I've heard in a very long time. Cindy Blackman included! Very creative song ideas and great solos. What a delight. I discovered Allison through an article in Modern Drummer and was excited to check out her music. I was not dissapointed. This recording is for all jazz fans not just jazz drummers. Congradulations Allison on a fine session.

One of my favourite drumming experience and also musically rich
author: Christof, Vienna/Austria
The CD reflects my live experience of Allison's perfect rhythm part here in Vienna just a few weeks ago (when on tour with Marty Ehrlich). Complex and most interesting drumming combined with excellent compositions makes this CD a pure pleasure to me. Just great!

Alison sings with a funky beat
author: Roland Livingston
This CD has a good blend of tunes. Miriam's Shuffle has a nice groove and is the cut that attracted me to this CD. All of the cuts swing with the excellent backing of Allison's drum beat.
