Album Notes

Alô Brasil, consisting of twelve Philadelphia musicians spanning three generations, was born out of a passion for Brazilian music. Accompanied by stunningly costumed dancers, the band draws audiences into a "tornado of rhythm and sound" (Philadelphia City Paper) — an irresistible, full body-and-soul experience. Whether parading down Broad Street, opening for gala events or awards ceremonies at Philadelphia's top venues, or captivating hundreds of revelers at local nightspots, Alô Brasil never fails to enchant. The band’s repertoire is rooted in African influenced rhythms (samba batucada, samba reggae, pagode, maracatú, ijexá), and others, from many different regions of Brazil.

"a spectacle of joy and sensuality...a show of samba and joy which lifted the audience off the ground....Brazilian culture penetrating and infecting Philadelphia ."
Newark's Brazilian Press November 14, 2003

"some of the most distinguished players in the city...a genuine carnival experience"
Picks of the Week (Mary Armstrong)
Philadelphia City Paper March 13 – March 20, 2003

Wow! Most of the songs here are of Alo Brasil in concert here in Filadelfia where they really kick it! Put this on at a party! Best of all although the group hails from Philadelphia the music has a very authentic Brazilian sound! It contains pagode, samba enredo, afro-brazilian and many other styles! Nice!
