APRIL ALOISIO was first released on vinyl in 1982. Her fans have anxiously awaited the re-release of those beautifully re-worked standards, Brazilian classics and original music. Featuring Cincinnati's finest musicians, April Aloisio's CD opens with pianist Steve Schmidt's arrangement of "What Is This Thing Called Love", drifts into Baden Powell's "Iemanja" as a duet with acoustic guitarist Jay Heavilin, and continues on to the Steve Schmidt/Mike Sharfe arrangement of "Nature Boy". April embraces each song, challenging her musicians to collaborate with her creative interpretations. Her musical arranging ideas pair bassist Jim Anderson and flugelhornist Al Kiger on "Willow Weep For Me", giving the old standard a breath of new life. Billy Larkin's original "Buenas Sillas" features Aloisio's lyrics with a full flute arrangement by Sandy Suskind and Elliot Jablonsky. "Quiet Nights", an Antonio Carlos Jobim classic, has a light, acoustic guitar trio backing April's sensual voice, passionate for the music of Brazil. The recording comes to a close as Steve Schmidt on electric piano, Lynn Seaton on bass and Marc Wolfley on drums join April to re-interpret Bob Dorough's "Small Day Tomorrow". April Aloisio was just at the beginning of her musical journey in 1982. But today, her re-mastered vinyl recording is timeless, sounding even better on CD!
