Album Notes

"Aloisio sings in a late-night intimate fashion with Burkhead playing the same way. Those who like their standards delivered in stripped-down torch style will find "DAYDREAM", the new release from jazz singer April Aloisio and pianist Phillip Burkhead, an elegant and romantic 14-cut package.
The duo works their magic on mostly classics from "The Very Thought of You" and "Summertime" to "I'll Be Seeing You", "Body & Soul" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
It's a wonderful mood album with just Aloisio's silky smooth vocal style, where diction matters, and Burkhead's intricate, soulful piano work.
"DAYDREAM" showcases April Aloisio's modern take on standards, torch songs and Brazilian tunes. Her arrangements probe harmonies and emphasize lyrics. Her voice, a soft-toned, warm soprano, uses subtlety and restraint to full effect. Burkhead's piano work is as much the star as Aloisio's vocals as he has long solo stretches on several cuts and two instrumental pieces, "Monk's Mood" and "I Loves You Porgy" on the CD."

April Aloisio was born in Chicago and started her professional singing career in Cincinnati, Ohio, where her family had moved when she was in her teens. She later returned to Chicago, recording three CDs for Southport Records. Eventually she moved back to Cincinnati and "DAYDREAM" is her third release since her return. Louisville, Kentucky native Phillip Burkhead began teaching himself to play the piano at the age of eight by emulating pop and jazz artists. Currently Phillip performs weekly at the Dee Felice Cafe in Covington and is the Adjunct Professor of Jazz Piano at Northern Kentucky University, The University of Dayton, and Central State University.
