Al Petteway,Caledon Wood,Maggie's Music
Since he was 12, Al Petteway has been playing guitar professionally, as well as other instruments. He knows how to impress as well on classical as finger style guitar, in folk, blues and Celtic music. Together with his wife Amy White he released several albums. On Caledon Wood he expresses his great love and inspiration towards Celtic music in a solo and chamber music setting. Sundog is appealing for the intimate feelings and fantastic composing skills on guitar and piano and nice percussion by Al and Amy White. Funky C Funky Do, played in an altered tuning is full of groove and is well balanced and played with skilled techniques. On Faire Wind Al is assisted on cello and violin in an open tuning in an enticing melody line, with the cello touching your lower chakras. On Branches Amy White on mandolin reflects an Celtic atmosphere with the top-notch musical skills of Al an Amy. Caledon Wood has a dancing character using ,uilleann pipes, guitar, conga and percussion. A Waltz for Rebecca is the only solo piece on this album in a DADGAD tuning in a wonderful ambiance with a melancholic touch. Maggie's Reel gives one these nice ancient and mystical feelings with additional hammered dulcimer, mandolin and guitar. Caledon Wood is a very remarkable album with outstanding musicians who are able to paint their songs in fantastic Celtic moods.- Henk te Veldhuis, Bridge Guitar Reviews
