alpha kilo contains four boys who come from the streets of New York City, the backwoods of Florida and the underrated urban world of Chicago.
The kilo kids grew up on rock, folk, hardcore, goth, emo, soul, hip-hop, punk and the occasional rock opera.
This was the music that made them jump, crawl and beg for more.
At some point in their lives (typically in those impressionable high school years) they decided to give back to the teat that fed them.
They found themselves picking up instruments (whether it suited them or not) and bands started to form around them.
They each got wet in such deep and shallow waters as LPMS, Sterile, My Father's Mission, Erotic Jesus, xxxxx xxxxxxx and a few other exotic adventures.
Somehow, the rivers that carried each of them and their music along, converged and alpha kilo took root.
To create their musical gumbo they dip into such sauces as Spiritualized, Doves, Radiohead, Low, Jeff Buckley, P J Harvey, Coldplay, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Verve and The Cure.
The songs they write revolve around the typical radio-friendly themes of gothic girls who love their pain, alienation support groups, the ugly-beautiful-people doing just about anything to fill the emptiness inside, forgotten boys with girls that play god, and the ego boosting qualities of addiction.
Their hope is for their music to find similar ground within a stranger's soul and possibly oscillate a few strings that connect to the heart.
alpha kilo has gone through a few different incarnations, but with their current line up, we find our musical explorers at their creative zenith.
With Andrew Kwasny on vocals and guitar, Mac on bass and generated synthetic vibes, xxxxx xxxxxxxxxx on loud guitar & Tom Clancy on drums, alpha kilo hopes to take you on board its tin can in the sky to a better place than this.
They want to sing about a life you know, a life you've lived, a girl you knew, a boy you will meet, or a world you live in.
Having played well received shows in such places as CBGB's, Luna Lounge, Brownies, The Elbow Room, Continental and a few other funky named clubs, alpha kilo continue giving it all they have in this unforgiving city; selling their soul in all possible New York venue.
"few and far between," alpha kilo's first studio work, tries to capture a little bit of that purity that seems to escape most recordings today.
The name of the album is suggestive of the time and method in which this project was recorded; sneaking in and out of recording studios to get that five finger discount.
Computer Club Records has recently included alpha kilo on their roster of quality bands, and support alpha kilo's decision to continue to bring you the new hottness and dispense with the old + busted.
alpha kilo, we're on your side!
