Album Notes

"At The Water's Edge is truly original, versatile, and entertaining as is the singer, song writer, producer himself - Alston Bair.

Bair is an accomplished international vaudevillian cabaret star entertainer (pop, ethnic, classical).

He became conscious of the need to present his own awareness of some of lifes truisms in rhythm and song, which he so often accomplishes singing "other peoples material".

Therefore, to match the skills of the great "other peoples songs" which he uses to maintain a successful singing career of over twenty-five years, Bair had to produce great and versatile pop material, natural to himself and to his background, henceforth "At The Water's Edge".

Being a "Nat'ral Born Jamaican" means Bair had the prerequisites to rhythm feeling and song, like Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, etc., but Bair is different - please listen to a new beginning "At The Water's Edge".

This album was done completely in South Florida,USA - Miami/Fort Lauderdale, where Alston Bair and Jah-Lights Band reside and performs.

The musicians involved are all outstanding world class talents who enjoy international concert and recording exposures, past and current.

The following background material is taken from the insert of Alston Bair's 2nd album of songs "Big Bamboo" (vinyl double album), ("other peoples material").

The Bair facts include a birthdate, but Alston Bair says "The beginning of living" was the day he discovered that he had a gifted voice and could use it.

He had begun studying at the Jamaican School of Music with Marion Novakosky, a former leading bass singer with the Covent Garden Opera House of London.

He had sung with the Kinsgton College Chapel Choir for 10 years.

He had appeared with the Jamaica National Theatre and Dance Companies, on local stage, radio, television and in several movies made in Jamaica.

He became a professioanl singer; a favorite of the Jet Set spots on his native island - the Jamaica Playboy Club, Half Moon Hotel, Round Hill Club, Tyrall Country Club, the Jamaica Hilton and Frenchman's Cove Hotel.

It was during this time that he made his first recording, ALSTON BAIR, LIVE, with great results.

He was on his way: cruise ships in the Caribbean, the Miami Beach Auditorium, the Fountainebleau Hotel, also in Miami Beach, where he was held over -- a very rare occurrence.

On to Mr. Kelly's in Chicago, El San Juan - Puerto Rico, and on and on.

"Warm is the Word" - San Juan Diary; "Soul, spirit and gut" - San Juan Weekly; "A singer who loves to sing" - Reporter, Miami Beach: "Energetic, radiant, as charming as his homeland" - Chicago Today; "Free and joyful" - Chicago Sun Times; "He'll thrill you, charm you, shake you" - Curacao; "Charming, thoroughly entertaining" - Chicago Sun Times; :He's a poet, an artist who paints emotions" - Daily Sun Reporter, Miami Beach; "Alston Bair sings because he has to; much in the same sense that Sammy Davis and Al Jolson had to perform..." - WOCN Radio, Miami.

These are a mere handful of huzzas gleaned from reviews that range from San Juan to Chicago, from Detroit to Miami, from Aruba to Curacao, Montreal to Grand Cayman, B.W.I., and on and on, HERE and NOW! ALSTON BAIR...the joyful Jamaican with the Vibrant Voice! To say is succinctly...BAIR IS BEAUTIFUL! Bair definitely has enough experience under his belt to do the versatile pop stretch from folk style calypso and reggae - "At The Water's Edge/Love Shores/Good Plan Pan Man/Nat'ral Born Jamaican/Hurricane Commandments".

To Pop rock and jazz - "Turn It Around/Driven By The Music". To ballads, latin and afro - "Little Baby/Wedding Drums".

All with good messages for the listener and to dance if you feel like it.
