Liverpudlian Alun Parry's second album, "Liverpool 800: True Love of Mine," joyously celebrates the 800th birthday of the city's gritty and tumultuous past with warts and all. No punches barred. My Grandfather was a Docker" is a catchy upbeat folk song with a deeper message from the Merseyside songwriter/poet-activist Alun (not a typo) Parry, who sings in the style of Woody Guthrie-meets-Elvis-Costello, with a Springsteen-Lennon twist. These half-dozen tunes encompass a wide cross-genre range in their stylistic diversity: "Liverpool Love Song," is a ballad, while other tracks, such as "Red and Blue," and "Coming Home" evoke indie rock, post punk pop, you name it.
