Set against a New York backdrop that travels over into the Brooklyn borough, Amanda Thorpe's powerful new collection of songs, Promenade, features acclaimed New York musicians –Tony Scherr, Robert Jost, Don Piper, Brad Albetta and Craig Chesler.
Half of the songs were co-produced with Brad Albetta (Freddy Johnston, Martha Wainwright, The McGarrigles, Teddy Thompson), and the other half, with Don
Piper (Don Piper Situation, Bedsit Poets). This mix of live band recordings and the more introspecitve self tracked songs provide a suprisingly easy shift between the two settings, a little like Thorpe and her songs that move fluidly between the initmate and the public, so keenly captured by Variety.com “Thorpe balances brassiness and vulnerability with panache.”
This moving and inspiring CD features the radio-friendly “Bar Tabac,” the dark but dreamy “Catching the Light” and an interesting new take on "Paper Moon",
performed in 6/8, with minumum support instrumentation.
Among other great reviews, People magazine noted that Thorpe’s debut album, Mass, “brims with lovely melodies and haunting vocals.”
Promenade, captures the ongoing development of a gifted songwriter and performer.

“This could be the ultimate autumnal New York album.” – Lucidculture.
“Thorpe has made a beautiful record full of longing, for places, for people, it is New York City and everywhere you miss when you are lonely. Great melodies and wistful lyrics reminding you of Ray Davies. Think blazing on a sunny afternoon followed by a waterloo sunset.” – Thom Pyor
“...rich and moving, elegantly crafted melodies, restrained yet powerful lyrics. All together, her music evokes hope and disappointment, strength and vulnerability, always with transcendent grace.” – V. Vitkowsky
