You are about to buy a magical c.d.
All proceeds from the sale of this c.d. will go directly to help the children of the Amani Children’s Home in Moshi, Tanzania, at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
For more information concerning the Amani Children’s Home, please go to www.Amanikids.org.
Amani Children's Home is dedicated to the protection of Tanzania’s most vulnerable population: street-children and AIDS orphans. Since its founding by local Tanzanians in 2001, Amani Children's Home has rescued over 210 children from the perils of life on the streets, where children face a high risk of HIV transmission and malnutrition.
The music on this c.d. was produced by the children of the Amani Home as well as many special friends of the Amani Home. The result is a wonderful c.d. filled with irresistible rhythms, exquisite voices rising up in heart-stopping harmonies and music which serves as reaffirmation of unity which joins one person to the next, one voice to the next, one heart to the next, one continent to the next.
In addition to the children of the Amani Home, you will also be treated to music by the Ombeni Choir from Moshi, Tanzania, the Tusker Crew, a group of singers from the villages surrounding Moshi, and many American friends of the Amani Home. The music ranges from traditional African folk music to American blues, jazz and gospel, all of which are firmly rooted in the traditions of call-and-response and the melodies, the rhythms and the structure of African music.
In combining African music with American music, this c.d. does more than simply celebrate the children of the Amani Home. It demonstrates in a glorious manner that the elements which join all of us far outnumber and far outweigh the factors which divide us.
"Amani" means "Peace" in Swahili. It is the sincere hope that this c.d. will help bring peace to the children of the Amani Home - The Children of Kilimanjaro - even if only a few dollars at a time and a few children at a time. As you listen to this c.d., you may find your body moving and your heart swelling with the recognition that in the most elemental and profound sense, we are all Children of Kilimanjaro.
Enjoy !
