BIO: Amber Halland - Talking with an Embryo
Talking with an Embryo, Amber's second LP, is the first of which she finds to be "completely real." What is going on behind the smiles of the person serving you coffee in the morning, the one you traded 25 cents for a cigarette . . . Amber Halland isn't afraid of sharing her personal life through her music.
Amber's Story:
Amber Halland's subtle directness shouts urban, but she actually grew up in no place other than Fargo, ND. Amber found her love of performing at an early age, playing piano at age five, singing at age twelve, and performing her first self-written piece at age fifteen in 1995. Surrounded by friends and family in Fargo's safe haven, Amber put together her first band at age sixteen singing of happy love with female sarcasm on, Flame of Love, her first LP. Flame of Love proved to be a success, receiving months of major airplay in the ND and MN regions. Following, Amber's days in high school were filled with radio shows, press interviews, and performances, such as the sold out CD Release Concert at the Fargo Theater.

The success at the Fargo Theater led to other performances such as the opener for Tim McGraw in June 1998. Still, Amber Halland became anxious for something more challenging. The sarcasm in Amber's lyrics foreshadowed the years to follow. The evolution of girl to woman is apparent with one glance of Amber's new look. Finishing high school five months early, Amber leapt from the safety of her small town into the hands of Nashville, TN.

In Nashville, Amber Halland worked on her talents with singer-songwriter Judy Rodman and co-wrote with one of Nashville's top writers, Dennis Morgan. Amber Halland also took hold of Nashville's infamous music and music business college, Belmont University, with alum's such as Trisha Yearwood and Fleming McWilliams from "Fleming and John." Between semesters, Amber Halland spent her summers headlining her own band and touring through MN and ND. In June, 2000, she recorded the single, "Let Me Be," which again received major radio airplay supporting the tour which she shared the same bill as Kenny Wayne Shepard at Moondance Jam in Walker, MN. As Amber's skills as a songwriter began to grow, she needed something more to write about. And more is what she got. She began to prepare for her next recording project writing about lost love, anger, disappointment, and finally, real love.
In the summer of 2001, Amber Halland took her material and image to Minneapolis, MN. Working with producer, Patrik Tanner (Tina and the B-sides, Martin Zellar, Justin Case), the project began to create itself. Throughout the fall of 2001, Amber Halland recorded her second LP and her first creation out of the past three, which she finds to be "completely real." Talking with an Embryo was recorded at both Oarfin Records and Echo Bay Productions in Minneapolis. Patrik Tanner provided virtually all of the instrumentation. Minneapolis' Scott LeGere added another dimension with his talents on the Piano, Rhodes, and Hammond. Amber's sister, Ashley Halland sings BGV's blending only like blood can. Patrik Tanner's instrumentation provides a scaffolding for each song allowing Amber's lyrics and raw directness to flow past the surface.
