Here's a relatively short bio:
Grandfather was a vaudeville musician until its decline, when he moved his family to California and spent the rest of his career working for CBS as a musician/composer.
Dad played the bass fiddle and guitar in the navy band, which is where he met Mom, who sang with the band. This is during World War II.
Ten daughters and no sons in the family, and I'm number nine in the flock. Overachievers, each and every one of us - except for me, who would rather stay home and play my guitar.
I'm an admitted chocoholic. I never tire of Beatles' songs. I have a tendency to take in strays, both the human and animal variety. I have four children - and I make no apologies for that.
I love to sing, and I love to write. I hope you can hear that in my songs.
This collection of songs was put on CD because enough people asked me to do it that it was easier to just go ahead and put it together than it would have been to go on giving all the reasons why I couldn't.
Nearly all of my songs are based on true stories. If they didn't happen to me, I observed them happening to someone else - sometimes a near stranger, sometimes someone very close to me.
I hope there's something somewhere in these songs that reaches out and touches something inside of you. That is what would mean the most to me.
I stay close to home in Northwest Louisiana as much as possible...but keep an eye on my calendar - I've got family scattered everywhere and I'm liable to show up in your town real soon.
Note: Since this CD, I've released two other CDs, Nothing Else To Do and Old Horses - both of which you can find either on CD Baby or at my own web site. Nothing Else To Do has minimal instrumentation and Old Horses is a studio CD recorded with a band. I will soon offer a new CD that will feature bare-bones guitar/vocal versions of all previously unreleased songs. Look for Bedroom Recordings soon.

Amelia Blake is the epitome of pure, raw talent.
author: Harvey Lapp
This cd contains eleven pieces of Amelia Blake's original work. Each piece is a keeper. There is no fluff or fillers, just pure unaccompanied guitar and vocal music performed by Ms. Blake. I am sure that many of the tracks could be successfully made into large scale productions by full size bands, but I like this cd just the way it is; Amelia, her guitar and her creative genius. I can't stop listening to it!

Terrific!

This short review applies to Amelia's first and second CDs, "nothing else to do" and "Amelia Blake". I found both CDs wonderful. They're warm and personal, with a nice mixture of sadness, thoughtfulness, humor, and optimism. I love the simple song treatments, in spite of a few minor technical recording flaws. These are my favorite acoustical guitar recordings.
