Phenomenal!
author: Johnny Wessler
Each of the songs on this compilation are better written than anything you hear on the radio these days. They are well orchestrated with feeling and thoughtfulness that will make this CD one of the most timeless and prized collections in anyone's musical library.
I'm not sure how to categorize Amelia's music, perhaps it's best to keep it in a class by itself. Each song deserves careful attention and will have you exploring your own soul as Amelia's beautiful voice matches the feelings of her emotional arrangements perfectly.
With clear vocals that are easy on the ears, I found my heart beat with a compassionate embrace to "Right Man, Wrong Time" and "Heartbreaker", and my feet couldn't help but keep the rhythm to the lively tempo'ed "Radiator" and "Old Brown Overcoat".
Creative melodies with clever and thought provoking lyrics, Amelia has proven herself worthy of the big leagues.
Truly Phenomenal!

While her vocals evoke Emmylou's work with Gram Parsons, with a slight shade of Stevie Nicks for effect, Amelia Blake's career path seems more akin to Matraca Berg or Patty Griffin. She might just get discovered and hit the big time like Patty, or feed songs to the hit makers as Matraca has done. Somehow, it seems like she'd be happy either way as long as we are listening to the stories she's yet to tell.
Several songs besides the title track on Old Horses showcase Amelia Blake's searing delivery, especially the twin mortality tales City of the Dead and Are You Calling, as well as Radiator, a tongue-in-cheek paean to doing what you have to do when the going gets rough.

I WILL be sharing your music with other folks!

Heard Amelia's CD yesterday. She has fans I bet she doesn't even know about who are floating around sharing her music. Not for long, I'm quite certain. This CD presents competition to the established performers we all know - - Mary Chapin Carpenter, Allison Krauss. And, I think it merits a great following of its delightful versatility of voice, mood, and accompaniment.
