notes
Leave it to American Dog to bring the people to the music. Unlike every live album known to man, this one wasn't recorded at a live venue. Nope, Foamin' At The Mouth Live was recorded live in the studio with eighty of American Dog's best friends and enough beer to give everyone in attendance the shits for a month.
This is how a band like American Dog should be recorded - live, abrasive, off-the-cuff and downright nasty. I've always said that music such as this needs little production, because it is the warts and mistakes that make it unique - so imagine the grin on my face when I read the liner notes and noticed "not produced at all"! Not your typical album, this is just a party being thrown by a group of guys that happen to play fun and rough music, it is a cool concept and works well.
In fact, many of these tunes sound even faster then their original studio recordings. Just check out "Shitkicker" or the super-charged "Barely Half Alive" - drummer Keith Pickens starts a fast beat and the other guys follow right along. Often live albums sound far worse then the studio recordings, but Foamin' At The Mouth Live doesn't. It makes you wonder how live the original recordings were, because I've always suspected this was a one or two take band. Some songs, such as "I'll Drink To That", have some incredible extended guitar and drum solos.
This is a fun CD, nothing more and nothing less. Essentially an American Dog greatest hits album (and a collection of all the drinking songs one will ever need) with a Motorhead cover and one new studio cut. "D-N-D" is a weird country ode to the fine art of drunk driving, an art that will come in handy after sitting through this collection of beer-guzzling standards. I still say this would be one of the best bands to see live, but until that day comes this ass-kicking slab of dirty metal will do just fine.

The next best thing to seeing them LIVE
author: One Angry SwedeIf you're interested in getting a LIVE cd then you probably already know American Dog. And if you don't....shame on you! Buy this, the rest of the CDs available and better yet.....go see 'em tear it up at your local watering hole. 'Foaming At The Mouth' is reminscent of the infamous AC/DC bootleg 'Live From Atlantic Studios'. Instead of stuffy studio execs, the crowd here is a bunch of beer drinking friends. The quality of the performance on this disc is a good represention of the band live. Extremely well recorded too. Stand out tracks include "D-N-F", "Blame It On The Booze" and the Motorhead cover "Bomber". Crack one open and TURN IT UP. LIVE DOG RULES!
author: frankAmerican Dog, for those whom don't know anything about the band. are a three piece band from Columbus Ohio. Beer drinking, hard hitting kick ass Rock & Roll is what these guys play. If you've never heard the band before well then, 'Foamin' At The Mouth Live' is a great introduction to the sounds of the DOG. Imagine if AC/DC, Ted Nugent and Motorhead all were put together into one band. Then you would have what American Dog sounds like. This is the kind of music that the wimpy corporate rock stations just don't play anymore. Recorded on August 6th, 2005, with eighty of their friends and plenty of beer, American Dog tear through a set of tunes mostly based around the band's favorite hobby and that's drinking. Titles like "Another Lost Weekend," "Barely Half Alive," "Blame It On the Booze," "Too Damn Sober" and the new studio track "D-N-D ( Drinking And Driving)" give you a pretty good idea what these guys are all about. You're not gonna get any "Life Sucks And I Wanna Die" music from these guys. Just good old 70's style guitar heavy party music. In fact, with all the songs on the CD about drinking 'Foamin' At The Mouth' would make for a good album to crank up at your next party. The new studio track "D-N-D" will definitely go over well with anyone that's ever tried drinking and driving. The song is just hilarious and hits home with me and many people I know. If you're wanting a good place to start your American Dog collection, 'Foamin" At The Mouth Live' is the way to go. This CD ranks right up with the band's 'Scars-N-Bars' album that came out early in the year. I'll give it 5 beers cans out of 5.
Dirty, Grimy, booze infested Rock n Roll at its best
author: CA RedneckAmerican Dog unleash there latest Foamin’ at the Mouth, a Live album that showcases the band in their element. These guys are at their best live where their dirty, grimy, booze infested rock n roll really comes alive. These guys have a sound that you would get if Motorhead, Ted Nugent, AC/DC, and George Thorogood were all driving drunk and crashed into each other at a 4 way intersection. Good time drinking songs like Blame it on the Booze, Too Damn Sober, and Drank too much, make you want to shotgun a 6 pack and bang your head. Barely Half Alive romps along at 100 MPH, while Workin Man and Shitkicker really showcase their blue collar redneck metal. The album ends with a studio track called D n D which is a hilarious kind of honky tonk type song all about the do’s and don’ts of Diving Drunk. Politically Correct they are not but this is a perfect companion for a Friday night after a long week of work.
