Album Notes

AMERICAN DOG
Last Of A Dying Breed

Now here’s a band that drinks way too much, never sleeps and doesn’t bath often enough. The scruffy trio of guitarist Steve Theado, bassist/vocalist Michael Hannon (Salty Dog, Hilljack, Dangerous Toys) and drummer Keith Pickens are determined to spread their own brand infectious rock n’ roll. Born from the loins of the legendary bar band Hilljack, American Dog waste no time invading the empty air between your speakers. Bursting with 4-ton balls Last Of The Dying Breed grabs ya by the throat and throws ya against the wall. Barely Half Alive starts the disc off landing a cheap shoot to the sternoplexus armed with the prowess of Ted Nugent joined by AC/DC as the backup band. Then the drinking songs kick in.

American Dog’s bread and butter lie in a never-ending string of live gigs so it’s only appropriate that three of the ten tracks on their debut CD are peppered with bar-band humor. Drinkin’ About You, Drank Too Much and Dog’s Life are cut from the rim of a port-a-potty with just enough sexy guitar licks to keep your foot stompin’ and your head bangin’. The title track, Last Of The Dying Breed, TV Disease and the Twisted Sister cover Under The Blade square off for ten rounds with meaty hooks and brass knuckles. Straight Jacket / Dwight Fry push one step further with just enough punk to cash in on the twisted and deranged.

Brilliant!! I\'m so glad I decided to check these boys out. This is their first album and it sounds great. As a matter of fact all the American Dog albums I\'ve heard, so far, have sounded A1.

Last of A Dying Breed. Very well could be.....

Long time fan of this trio of hard rockers from Columbus Ohio. Oddly enough even though 'Last of a Dying Breed' is the band's 1st CD, it was the last to be added to my collection. Being quite familiar with their catalog - including a few tracks from this disc that are live staples - it was interesting to me to hear the origin of the band's sound. And it is there right from the get go. They are the self proclaimed 'Kings of Redneck Metal' but to me The Dog is all about the ROCK. Good ol' fashioned HARD ROCK. From the anthem like title track, to the crowd sing-a-long favorite 'Drank Too Much', to the humorous 'Dog's Life', the no-bullshit, no-frills ROCK blasts out of your speakers. The album does suffer a bit from the typical '1st album-itus'. The best songs are all up front, and a couple of covers are tagged on the end. Don't get me wrong...not a bad song on the disc but if this were vinyl, Side A is the one you'd wanna be playing. If you're a fan of AC/DC, Motorhead, George Thorogood, and BEER -- fork over the $12.97 -- you will not be disappointed.
