Coyote longs to be back in California. Stranded in Salt Lake City, Utah, our long-haired Buddhist hippie is being boycotted, by Mormons, ripped-off by in-laws, sleeping in his van with his cat, Celise. A Romantic reminisence of California life in the 80s.

"A Long Way From Home," is from the first level of American Zen's Buddhist journey to Nirvana. The album, LEVEL 1 = PEACE OF MIND, tells the rock opera story of Coyote's first year in Utah. Coyote tries to put a rock'n'roll band together, performs local clubs, and records flute with other Utah bands.

The wah-wah guitar and drums were recorded stereo, on a 4-track recorder, in Coyote's living room. His haunting vocal howls for happiness in a harsh land. The lyrics of "A Long Way Home," tell the story of Coyote's life that cold winter of a cold year.

When Tom Calder plays organ, he can't play bass, so he plays a 1977 Roland SH-7 2-voice analog synthesizer for the bass parts, while performing the Vox Jaquar Organ. Coyote performs egg shakers during vocal performance on his fourth track of the Tascam 424 recorder.
