Album Notes

Anne Meeker Miller believes children deserve to have rich musical lives from the start. A folk singer since shortly after birth, she has “seen and sung” it all – from pop and jazz to the classics.

She is the founder of a language and music enrichment program for hearing infants and toddlers called Baby Sing & Sign®. Through her classes, she shares information about the benefits of music, sign language and play for young children. A graduate of the University of Kansas, Anne earned a Ph.D. in music education and music therapy. She holds national board certification in music therapy from the American Music Therapy Association. Anne lives in Olathe, Kansas, where she enjoys spending time with her husband, three sons and Wheaten terrier, Cooper.

The second edition of her book and music CD, Baby Sing & Sign ®: A Play-Filled Language Development Program for Hearing Infants and Toddlers (2004) is ready and available. Her newest product is a music CD for children two to 99 years, and is called Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed: More Songs to Sing and Sign with Kids and Kritters. The sixteen-page booklet accompanying the music CD gives instructions for animal signs as families sing these wonderful folk songs with a kick!

Animal-themed folk music performed “for” children instead of “at” them
author: Lahri Bond/Parent's Choice Foundation
Review: Drawing on animal-themed traditional music from the American south and Appalachias, Anne Meeker Miller and company adapt the songs to modern, very musical and intelligent arrangements—playing “for” children instead of “at” them. The approach to the music is respectful and genuinely fun. Miller's selections, ripe for participation, are augmented by gratifying instrumentation and pleasant professional singing. The accompanying booklet includes lyrics (thank you), photographs of children showing fourteen ASL signs for animals, as well as a list of related animal books.

A KIDDIE-FOLK ZOO FOR BABY AND YOU
author: jonaco
Meet Anne Meeker Miller, a friendly music therapist (with a Ph.D.!) from Kansas City. Her CD, the basis for an innovative children's music program, not only collects a batch of bright kiddie-folk favorites but performs a noble service: it comes with a guide to teach your kids (and you) sign language. Anne sings animal-themed tunes like "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "Mockingbird" in her pleasant, Joan Baez-style soprano. She also combines them with the ASL signs for various words and animals. If you have little ones who are a bit hyper and seek some upbeat but soothing music...add a physical touch that's helpful, not aggressive...and can't get to K.C., let Anne and her "Sing N' Sign" music program come to you. It's what that babysitter from "The Incredibles" called "cognitive development"- and I promise she won't set your baby on fire!
