Alternate Worlds is twenty-first century eighties music. It's modern instrumental pop with a beat and a twist. It's a harder, faster, subtler re-interpretation of the songs on 2007's Sixteen Worlds. It's the end result of what began by running Sixteen Worlds track titles through the Internet Anagram Server. It's Sixteen Worlds disassembled, laid out on the garage floor, and rebuilt with spoilers, mag wheels, and a supercharger.

It's one half of a one-to-one bijection corresponding to Sixteen Worlds. It's what Sixteen Worlds may have sounded like if it had been recorded sixteen months later. It's three new pieces, five remixes, one demo from 1995, and one live track. It's a meditation on hazard stripes, rusted overpasses, and blue skies. It's the mathematical convolution of Sixteen Worlds and abandoned railroad tracks. It's a fine accompaniment to drinking coffee and pondering a career change. It's derived from but inexplicably longer than Sixteen Worlds. It's a collection of fine moments standing in cold air looking at bare trees. It's an uneasy blend of calculated composition and patchy performance. It's a product of one person's noodling in central Pennsylvania in the late winter and early spring of 2008.

Alternate Worlds: It's two ounces of aluminum, plastic, and paper with a design that would make Chip Kidd jealous were he not incredibly more successful than us, with the added bonus that it sounds good in your CD player.
