Folky soul, earthy blues, with songs driven by emotion, passion, and empathy, Amos Lee, a Philadelphia native, distinguishes his latest recording with strong songs that are diverse stylistically and rich in texture.

Highly influenced by soul, folk, and blues music, Amos Lee directs his music with a spirit and presence rooted in American tradition. Taking inspiration from soul greats Stevie Wonder, and Donny Hathaway, and folk legends, John Prine and Dave Van Ronk, Amos delivers a unique breed of folky soul music that aims to unite, uplift,and inspire.

Freshly transplanted from South Carolina, Amos is now based in Philadelphia, Pa. where he is working on his second CD and gigging steadily in the Philly, NY, NJ area.

There are only a few of this early ep left. When these are gone, they are gone forever! So, if you are interested in this ep, you'd better buy it now. I love CD BABY, they have been fantastic!!! I have a new album out released on Blue Note Records which is available in stores.

    I am a little uncomfortable reviewing this album, for it seems from the comments already here that Amos appeals to the female listener quite readily. But I can assure you, I have no interest in Amos as "sexy" or anything like that! I am a 66 year old preacher, and I just saw Amos perform on Austin City Limits last night in our area [Holland, MI]. I was immediately spellbound by his voice and music. I am a very discriminating music listener with only a handful of favorite singers and performers, one of which is John Prine, who I think was an inspiration for Amos, if I recall his comments. Whatever, I was bowled over by his excellent lyrics, his excellent voice, and even his band is surprisingly good. Currently, I am listening to another phenomenon that I discovered on CD Baby: Mary Gauthier. Amos and she are right now just about the only music I am listening to, except maybe Andrea Bocelli. I hope we see much more of Amos and I hope sometime if he is in our area that I might actually go to a concert, a think I am loathe to do except for the very best voices. Good luck to you, Amos, and keep writing and singing.

    This cd is wonderful, all the songs make you want to sing, no fast forwarding here. I first saw this artist in concert in Selma, TX with Norah Jones. There wasn't a dry seat in the house, my guy friends looked completely jealous during Caramelize Me Baby. I even got Amos' autograph after the show~

    I think this CD is very well written. I love the minimalist style. I absolutely love Bottom of the Barrell, and Amos has great vocal style on this album. I almost wondered if the producers doctored him up after recording, but after listening to the album over and over again, I've decided that Amos has a versatile voice that he knows how to use. My favorite song is Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight, and Colors. Thanks Amos for making an album worth my money.

    I first saw Amos on "Austin City Limits." It was incredible--totally sucked me in. There was a haunting song about a train conductor on "cocaine and coffee". The only way this cd could be more perfect was if that song was on it . . .

    My all-time favorite song by Amos is Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight. The greatest song I have ever heard. My hat's off to Mr. Amos Lee for a phenominal album. I also agree to keep him secret.     Well, I have his first album and went in search of his other ones. I am so impressed the 30 second of the song I get on here is not enough to capture the whole songs. It has been permantly placed in my CD player.     love him. i wasn't sure about getting this cd at first since many of the tracks are on his bluenote album that i bought in march, but it is SOOOO worth it. i love the different stylings of the songs- quite different from the bluenote album. he is an amazing artist. (oh, and i highly recommend you see him live).

    I have all the songs from his debut album but I discovered that at his concert at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC he played other songs so I was of course looking for his EPK and look what I found the other songs he sang I really wanted. I met AMOS in NYC after a Four hour bus ride to NYC from DC well techincally King George near Frederickburg, Va but he was well worth it. Being able to talk with him about his music and connect with him strictly on a human connection level was so amazing. That was the best day!!! He totally made me feel welcome and honored by just being in his presence. I can't wait to get his EPK espically with "I'm NOt myself" that is reminds me of "Arms of a Woman". He totally rocks.     I do agree with some of you who want to keep him as a secret. Let's not ruin this. He's too much of a treasure with his angelic voice. How can all of the songs be perfect in every way? I fell in love instantly. Still somehow Keep it loose, keep it tight arises above others as the best song. While hearing it for the first time, I cried just because it was so beautiful. What else can I say? This is an artist that deserves respect, because he has put up quite an album.

    I have always considered myself a passionate critic and lover of music. I rarely ever find an album that has made me as emotional as Amos Lee's full lenght album and this small musical jem of an EP. This album stripped of all the glitz and glamour of the usual industry technology is simply put, pure music. Amos Lee's raw talent, enables him to use his mezmorizing voice as the most prominant "instrument" on each track. I have an inordinante amount of CDs in my personal music library and after being gripped by the first few tracks on this album its easily the best CD I have ever bought.

    I was turned on to Amos Lee through his drummer Fred Berman and became a fan at first listen. I love this recording as much if not more than the Blue Note debut. Gorgeous is the best word I can use to describe the sound. Amos' voice shines on this CD, and the band is a perfect complement. Great work!!

    This CD is simply beautiful! I haven't been this excited over a CD for quite some time. After buying Amos Lee's full-length debut CD, I couldn't help but want more music. This CD is a wonderful addition to the full-length CD, with rawer versions of familiar songs from his debut. After just seconds of hearing him perform on Letterman, I knew I had to purchase his CD. And since purchasing his CD I have found it difficult to listen to anything else. I'm on a mission to spread the news about Amos Lee. I get many strange looks when I say the name Amos Lee to my friends, but I'm determined to spread the word about this talented young artist. I just hope he makes it up to Canada again. I would love to check him out live. I'm disappointed I missed his previous performances in Toronto, but I'll be sure to check him out when he visits again.

    This is just a fantastic cd, what more can I say. If you are here, you already love this guy's music and are looking to scoop up everything available. You will not be disapointed here, some of the tracks are also on the Amos Lee self titled cd, but less polished here...a bit more acoustic. You can hear so many influences on this one cd, it really is wonderful.

    I had never heard of him until I went to the Norah Jones concert in Milwaukee this last fall. He opened up for Norah and he was a blast to listen to. I especially liked the song "Carmalize", if that is the name. I wished he would have recorded it for his latest CD. This CD is a must have.

  • Stronger, Soulful foot forward - Second ONLY to Live!

    I prefer this EP to Amos' full-length debut (released 3/1) album just because I feel as though this is a stronger, more soulful representation of what he is capable of. Also this EP does not feature Norah Jones contributions that are lacklustre and peg unfair comparison of Amos to her. Definitely a talent, especially considering that he writes his own stuff! Live is best, then this EP (I haven't listened to the other not available one), and lastly full-length. But this is just one opinion.

    For only the second time in my life have I had chills run up and down my spine when I first heard a singer's voice. In 1964 in a bar in Key West I heard Otis Redding sing,"Chained and Bound" and last week on an NPR station in Detroit I heard Amos Lee sing,"The Arms of a Woman".I get those shivers just thinking about the song.I am 21 years old again and life is great.

    There are a lot of different styles on this album. If it weren't for Lee's voice, which is fantastic, you might think that this was a compilation of several different artists. I listened to it 6 times in a row, which is far different from my usual "rip and shuffle" technique. Lee's next album comes out in March 2005. I'm looking forward to it.

    Amos Lee opened for Norah Jones in the UK during the summer of 2004 and he was stunning. His CD isn't available in the UK for some reason, which is such a shame. Buy this CD and you will not be disappointed, it's Norah Jones mixed with accoustic Simply Red bound together with Amos' unique talent.

    I'd give this cd five stars except that it's too darn short. You don't want his voice to end, so it feels too abrupt when it does. I never heard of the guy before about two weeks ago. I was on the CD Baby site, ordering a cd, decided to check out some of the other music on the site, and was captivated enough to make a purchase. I never do that!! And I'm so glad that I did. Colours and Black River are my favorites so far--I keep playing them over and over.

    Amos Lee opened for Norah Jones in Kissimmee, Florida. He played acoustic guitar, with no band, and it was perfect. It would be an understatement to say that his performance was spine tingling. At times during his performance, you could practically hear a pin drop, and nearly every eye in the audience was moist with sensuality. Sadly, Norah Jones' voice was lost in the excess of her band (which overwhelmed her voice), and with the huge shoes to fill following Amos Lee's performance, we were disappointed, but seeing Amos made the concert worthwhile. We want to buy his latest CD, but could not find it on Itunes or his website. . . . Anyone have any ideas on where we can get his latest?

    How can someone write a review about this music without talking about Amos Lee specifically? I do a lot of searching on CD Baby and since finding Amos Lee's music have tried to find another voice with his style: don't find it!

    I heard Amos open for Norah Jones this summer, and I thought he was fantastic. He has a truly great voice, his music is fun, melodic, easy but not simple. I thought the music on his album was much more staid than his live version (isn't that always the case?)... but I still recommend this CD. One down side -- the CD is a song or two too short. Amos, write some more music!

    That has got to be the sexiest performance with class I have EVER seen. His guitar and voice are not his only instruments. He's plays the crowd so smoothly and in such a way we all as fans can relate too. What an amazing performer. Leave it to Norah to get someone so AWESOME to open her AMAZING Seattle performance even with the Fire Alarms going off.........it was all that HEAT Amos was causing with the caramel coloured skin song!!!! Where do I find this amazing recording? I could barely sleep last night after that performance!!!!!!!! Someone guide me because his EVERYTHING was sold out by the night's end. If I had known they would leave a gap between performances with his announcement of signing EVERYTHING he sold, I would have gone to get a shirt AND CD.     I saw Amos at the Singer/Songwriter festival as well as at the Steel City Coffeehouse. I got his cd (signed, of course) and I listen to it all the time. He is amazing and his band is awesome as well.     A short review...difficult to do...the CD is truly incredible. Every song tells a story and gives you an insight into Amos. The lyrics are refreshing and heart-felt. You will fall in love with each song and Amos at the same time. This is a must buy! If you cannot tell, I have declared myself the President of the Amos Lee fan club:)!     I love this cd. In truth, I accidentally bought three copies. (Not so good to buy online after a night out.) I am glad I made the mistake though because now I have two totally awesome gifts. I had one person actually ask me to buy them one so I am really pleased. This cd is fantastic. I love his voice and the songs are nicely sentimental without being sappy and not to mention well arranged. There isn't a song on here I don't like. Keep 'em coming!

    We were at the Montrea Bell Center show where you opened for Norah Jones. You made this huge center crowd feel a lot better and it was as friendly as if we were in a small bar.     Saw Amos Lee open for Norah Jones in Birmingham, Alabama. We thought he was fantastic-- only him and the guitar. We had to have the cd so I came home and ordered it from CD Baby. Don't expect the live performance from the CD, but it's a fantastic CD! More variety in the instruments. It's just a great CD. Haven't taken it out since I got it. Love Black River, Arms Of A Woman. My only complaint is that there are not enough songs on it! Can't wait til his next one!

    I haven't even bought the CD yet but I know it will be great. I just saw Amos open for Norah Jones in Connecticut last night and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a concert as much. He set the mood perfectly. Anyone who can connect with a crowd of a few thousand with only a guitar and a microphone is ok in my book. His music is honest and easily relatable. His voice is just as pleasant as the melodies and the two combined are magnetic. He just sucks you into his world. By the time he finished his 30 min set, I was like "Norah who?"....

    Saw Amos opening for Norah Jones in Vienna, my friends and me were immdiately hooked. Loved his voice, lived his performance. Although this CD doesn't reflect his qualitites as a life performer, it still gives the best impression of his style and music. Colours, Dark River and Arms of a Woman are my favourites, wonderful lyrics, music full of feeling. The only thing I don't like is that it is so short..... I yeah, big praise for CD BAby too! Everything went smoothly and quickly and I loved your emails, they had me in tears of laughter ;-)

    This cd is so good! I really like "All My Friends" and "Colors". I saw Amos in Paris and wasnt able to get a cd before they sold out. I didnt know if the cd was going to be just him and a guitar. To be honest, I was a bit disapointed when I saw that it was a full band...but after listening to the cd, I was very happy to hear these Amos songs with a full band. Very honest and provoking lyrics.     I saw Amos Lee when he opened for Norah Jones in Nottingham. Cute guy, AMAZING voice. Can't stop playing the CD, but I think he is better live. I so want the first CD, I hope it comes back in stock soon.

    I was mesmerised by Amos Lee in Nottingham, when he opened for Norah Jones. Just one cute guy with his guitar and collapsing harmonica! I've waited ages to get his CD, but it is worth it! He is amazing. A beautiful voice, great lyrics, subtly produced with the minimum of accompaniment: no overpowering drums or guitar. Amos Lee deserves success, but sometimes I think it would be nice to keep him just our little secret! Can't wait for his first CD to come back in stock so I can own that too.

    I saw Amos live in London at the Troubador, but I already owned his EP and now his second album. Nothing compares to his soulful songs and rich vocals. He is a phenominal performer! I prefer him acoustic like he was at his show, but his CDs will not disappoint. He's a true talent, and I'm a huge fan!!

    Unlike many of the reviewers on this page, I have not had the pleasure of hearing Amos play a full set live. But I was lucky enough to hear him play an open mic night at a local music hang-out. He played two songs, and that was enough. Those shivers everyone is talking about? They come from the passion he so obviously puts into writing and performing his music.

    I was at Newcastle too, listened to Amos open for Norah. What I heard gave me shivers. The rush to buy his EP was like a stampede, and sold out within about 7 minutes. My only grievance about the whole night was that I wasn't quick enough to get one myself, and at the time of writing my copy is in the post. If this man is not universally acclaimed by the end of the year, then there is no justice in the world. It was a pleasure to hear him perform live. Simply brilliant!

    Just got back from Amos Lee's solo show in Newcastle and it was fantastic. A genuinly moving experience. Just him and his guitar playing sweet, soulful music for almost two hours. Buy Amos's CD and tell all your friends too beacuse the world deserves a chance to hear his beautiful music. Amos is destined to make it.

    After seeing Amos live (supporting Norah Jones on tour) I just had to have this CD. The pure clarity of his voice gives me the shivers. Soulful melodies and beautiful lyrics really tug at the heartstrings. Arms of a Woman is my absolute favourite song so far... The CD is great but doesn't compare to hearing Amos singing live.

    After seeing Amos Lee perform the tracks on this album (when he was supporting Norah Jones on her tour), I was compelled to buy this album. Not quite as magical as seeing him live, but still really enjoyable. His songs are really heart felt.
