Amy Rigby has stood out as one of music's most accurate reporters of the lives of working class women, setting her songs to pop, country and folk sounds. Pathos and humor [is] a delicate combination, but one Rigby has mastered.

Album Notes

Renowned songwriter Amy Rigby's upcoming fifth album, Little Fugitive (August 23 rd on Signature Sounds), finds the singer, who began her solo career as the Mod Housewife, bringing it all back home. Hailed for her keen eye and sharp wit in tracing the vagaries and victories of modern romance, her new Signature Sounds release finds Rigby promising "I Don't Want To Talk About Love No More." But, of course, she does - getting to the heart of the matter and the heart of the punch line in due course.

For the making of Little Fugitive, Rigby returned to New York City, where she emerged as a solo artist in 1996 with Diary Of A Mod Housewife, a critically acclaimed album that prompted Spin magazine to declare her "Songwriter of the Year" and was voted No. 8 in the annual Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll. "It felt like home," she explains. "Going back to New York was like putting back together the pieces of my past and wondering, who am I going be for the rest of my life?"

The album was recorded in a quick two day session, with Rigby co-producing the album with longtime guitarist Jon Graboff. The result is a collection that continues to prove Rigby to be the ultimate rock girl next door - strong-willed, sharp-tongued and ready to wrestle you to the barroom floor. Yet it also reflects the wisdom of a grown woman who has made her mark as a consummate artist, penning songs with an emotional honesty and rare incisive humor. And on Little Fugitive, Rigby feels free to color in the songs with stylistic splashes from bright folk chords to stomping rock and 60's psychedelia.

Amy just seems to go from strength to strength IMO. I can't say this one is better than her others, 'coz I love 'em all! One of the best lyricists in pop & rock today I think. This is definitely pop music for adults (showing that isn't an oxymoron!). And her musical instincts are great too. This album continues the pop & 'psychedelic' (a la Beatles's "Revolver") exploration of the last ('TIL THE WHEELS FALL OFF), if it has a somewhat brighter hue to it. But there're some rockers & more country flavored ones for fans of those sides too. Nice to hear The Shams back & backing on a couple too! And I think her voice is really well placed & effective here.
