CD IN STOCK. ORDER NOW. Will ship immediately.

Impossibly catchy songs that somehow capture a sense of the exotic and a hint of darkness, while still bouncing around your head like a good pop song. Billboard says: "melodically rich, lyrically evocative."

notes

Born in France and currently based in Chicago, Ana has made a name for herself with her rare combination of blunt honesty and emotional depth, both onstage and off. The CD, Hunger, is a natural extension of her passionate yet gentle personality. Her vocals are natural, silky, and unadorned. The songs are rich with wandering pop melodies and multi-layered stories that will carry you on a voyage of loss and hope, memory and love.

"Melodically rich... lyrically evocative. A set of startling originality and impressive scope..."
-Billboard

Ana's songwriting received a glowing review in Billboard and her title track, "Hunger," is a winner of the 2002 international Songs Inspired By Literature songwriting competition. "Hunger" is now part of a compilation CD that also includes songs by Tom Waits, David Bowie, Rosanne Cash, and Vicki Randle.

After college, Ana studied songwriting for several years with the master songwriter Bonnie Hayes (famous for the Bonnie Raitt hits "Have a Heart" and "Love Letter") while writing and performing with her band in San Francisco. In this crucible of the SF music scene, Ana learned how make a spiritual practice of songwriting, digging deep to find nuances of truth.

After hearing Ana's CD for the first time, a listener sent this email:
"I just find your music pretty astounding, and I know superlatives never mean much, but there's a nuance to the warmth inside your voice that I don't have any convenient words for, and while we're surrounded by people who talk all sharp and smart, they don't talk anywhere close to the way you sing, and in an age when everyone and their on-line alter ego has a theory about belief and the past and memory and love, you manage to phrase things in a way beyond marketing categories, which I might even hazard to say has to do with the idea of honesty."

  • Warning: This product is brave, vulnerable, smart and seductive. Listener bewar

"Hunger" was one of the cds strewn across the passenger seat and floor of my car as I drove from Chicago to Portland, OR last spring. Even though all the discs were good (insurance for blind grabs while night driving) I found myself captivated by Ana's voice, words and soul. By the time I hit the Rockies I was listening to a one-disc rotation. I listened to Ana's voice at six in the morning and six at night; in sun and fog; at sea level and at 6,000 feet. And every time it was as if I were hearing it for the first time. There's a LOT going on in there. "Hunger" leaves me feeling challenged, inspired, intrigued and - hungry.

This CD is amazing. I really enjoy listening to it and it makes me feel good if I am not having a good day. I think everybody should have this CD. The CD is interesting and different then anything I have ever listened to before. It is unique and I love it!

This CD will be a collector's item soon, so grab one now. The songs are great and she has a killer voice. The tunes are mostly about relationships, but they range from sad, to sweet, to sensuous. I could really relate to what she was singing about, and I'm a guy. Do yourself a favor and pop these tunes onto your MP3!!

  • Courageous, clever, passionate, withholding nothing
    author: Larisa Reznik

Courageous, clever, passionate, withholding nothing, Ana Porter's _Hunger_ offers a radical protest to adolescent cynicism of the garden variety independent music. Porter's airy, haunting voice coupled with nicely-textured acoustic guitar sounds lend the perfect form to the real substance of the CD--the lyrics. With both a vulnerability and a strength, Porter's lyrics harken back to a time when being a musician was a romantic profession. These songs ask questions about love, loss and the human condition in a unique and unpredictable way. Moreover, songs like Famous Enough or Bite the Hand That Feeds Me demand communal answers to the seemingly private scenarios from which the songs emerge. I’ve given this album as a gift to a few friends, who all have different tastes in music and genre, and they’ve all loved it. This would make for a nice birthday or holiday present for any music lover in your life.

  • Beware! But don't pass up this great folk/rock album!
    author: Susan Tall, Music Director

Check out the original lyrics of Ana’s title song “Hunger” with its mélange of light rock, folk and Indian elements that take the listener on a real trip. Ana’s songs have this strange capacity to instill calm (through her vocal inflections, vocal harmonies and her fresh musical language) while commenting on troubled human relationships and moods that affect us all. Ana’s puzzled concerns and plaintiff lyrics with her catchy phrasing are completely original set, as they are, over a balanced rhythm band accompaniment. There’s tension in her calm messages so beware! (but don’t pass up this great folk/rock album!) Favorite titles: Hunger Love Me Crazy You Move Me One Red Leaf

  • A great great CD . . .

I discovered Ana Porter's music when she played a concert in San Francisco. Her new release -- Hunger -- is probably my favorite CD of the past several years. It's also dangerously addictive. I've shared it with several friends -- all have become obsessed with Ana Porter's melodic and piercing music. Just listen to the tracks "hunger" or "one red leaf" and you will see what I'm talking about. She's almost famous now; my guess is she will break through in the next few years.....
