My love for music has always been a big part of who I am, it just wasn't something I wanted to share with others. As a child in New York I would sit down and play the piano by ear. By the age of nine I was writing my own songs. Being the second of five children and the daughter of a pastor who loved to sing and play the guitar, it was no wonder, my sisters and I were always on stage singing. During that time I suffered from a deep insecurity about my musical abilities. However, by the age of 12 I had my first song recorded by Day of Discovery. I continued to focus on writing songs, but because of my insecurity lost all desire to play or sing my music. At the age of 16 I went off to Liberty University. I did my best while at college to not let anyone know about my love for music. My only access to a piano was in a little white chapel next to my dorm which I played on occasion.
While at Liberty I met and married basketball player Eric Pothoven. We got married my senior year and after graduating moved to Columbus, OH. After having my second child at the age of 23 I began to settle into my role as a wife and mother. It is amazing to look back on things in my life and see God's plan at work. In the fall of 1998 while attending my local chuch I began to once again think about serving God in music.
Shortly after this my father was visiting and told me God spoke to him and he wanted to buy me a keyboard. It was amazing that as soon as I sat down the music started to flow. I began writing song after song and the culmination of many events, trials, prayers and dreams is this CD. In 2002 I was singing at Maranatha camp when God began to burden me to do something to help support the ministry of Citivision. I began to pray that if God would give me the money to make a CD I would give a portion of every CD sold back to the ministry.
Citivision is a not for profit organization started by my father Tom Mahairas. I am so excited to see what God has in store for me and I earnestly pray He will allow this music to impact people in much the same way I was impacted years ago. I am constantly aware that my gifts come from the Lord and I pray that they will continue to be used for His glory.
