Ancestra sings heart-centered, spirited songs, ancient in meaning: songs from the hearts of the ancestors.
Pulling from varied interests in blues, rock, classical, celtic and earth-based music, You Remind Me of Someone is an album, primarily a cappella, where the harmonic resonant blend of the three voices weaves stories of healing, life and love.
Influential songwriters and singers include John and Paul, Copper Wimmin, Chris Williamson, Indigo Girls, Wailin' Jennys, Trio Mediaeval, The Roches, Ulali, Walela and more!
Lauranne (who's alter ego finds her riding her Triumph motorcycle) has sung with a variety of local rock and country bands throughout Wisconsin's Dane County since 1979. She stepped out of the band circuit in 1997 and has been vocally challenging herself with blending, rhythmic sounds, jazz improv and gospel.
Kathryn, a Madison, WI native and third generation singer, has been vocalizing since 1975 in various ensembles, and has sung in various groups singing spiritual and healing music. She also sings with Uncle Stan's A Cappella Band, which includes her husband and son.
Carol, a dynamite quilter and vocalist has been singing since she can remember. She had her first solo at the tender age of 5 in a Christmas pageant. Carol has spent over a decade singing with Unity Choir and also sings spiritually-based music with the Unichicks.
All three began writing collaboratively since 2003.
Lauranne and Kathryn have been singing together since 1999 and have both studied with voice coach Kenna del Sol (Madison) and have taken workshops with Rhiannon, jazz improv vocalist, who sings with Voicestra: Bobby McFerrin's a cappella group. Carol studies with Maggie Delaney-Potthoff, lead singer for Harmonious Wail.
You Remind Me of Someone is produced by Maggie Delaney-Pothoff of Harmonious Wail and recorded by Philip Ryan of Audio Architects, Madison, Wisconsin

You Remind Me of Someone
author: Janis
Stunningly beautiful songs of the soul. From honoring the Earth to exploring relationship, friendship, personal growth, and humor. From the first note to the last, an audio feast. The singers weave their voices together, with individuals taking the lead at times but fully supported by the vocals of the other two. I was very touched by "Her Name Was Mary".

You Remind Me of Someone
author: Maggie Delaney Potthoff, Producer
“You Remind Me of Someone” is Ancestra’s first recording, and it’s a gem of an introduction. A few guests – guitar, percussion, and double bass – help out Ancestra’s stable of three a cappella voices.
All originals in their own imitable style which draws from influences of Native American, folk, the Beatles, gospel and even a bit of Cajun two-step!
You’ll be smiling from the moment this C.D. starts to play. The overall feel is infectious and clearly that of three friends who truly enjoy making music together.
Ancestra’s love of singing cannot be denied. Their arrangements are so polished and effortless. What shines through is a sincere love of the a cappella music that they do so well.
This CD takes you on a ride from comfortable to quirky! They pour their hearts out, allowing their voices to rise and fall with such power and yet always returning to the subtleties as they sing each story and paint each lyrical scene.
This CD will uplift you and put a smile on your face…and get your toes to tappin’!
