Bob hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and has enjoyed a long, circuitous journey into music. He started dabbling with guitar and writing songs as a teenager, recording his first tunes on a 4-track reel-to-reel in a friend's living room at age 17. But life was to lead him down other paths.

Bob ended up a Presbyterian minister and social worker in Chicago, continuing to diddle with his music all the while. Eventually he began devoting more of his free time to writing and developing as a musician, and attended the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Around 2002, he began performing his music at open mics around Chicago. In March of 2005, he independently released his first CD recording, "flesh." Since then, he has performed at Uncommon Ground Coffeehouse and Cafe in Chicago, and in various church settings around the Midwest.

Though Bob identifies himself as a Christian artist, he is not aiming for an evangelical or overtly Christian message in his songs. Rather, his music is always an attempt to express a universal message of beauty, humanity, and faith. Though he understands the possibilities of his music being a vessel to convey God's grace and love, Bob's deeper interest is in writing about human nature...stuff like temptation, the challenges of relationships, experiencing times of doubt, and dealing with the brokenness of our own lives and in the world around us. And, as often as possible, striving to do it all with a bit of tongue-in-cheek.

Bob was nurtured on a musical diet of acoustic singer-songwriters, classic rock, Windham Hill artists, and Christian pop. Stylistic elements of all of these genres are present in Bob's own brand of pop folk, and he has been compared to performers as varied as James Taylor, Jim Croce, Luka Bloom, and Jack Johnson. His CD, "flesh," addresses his favorite themes: relationships, the complexities of human nature, faith, and the places where they all collide.
