Album Notes

The Anders Orange, the debut album from Detroit-based artists Nick and Chris Brandon, is a work that was truly 29 years in the making. After all, the twin brothers were born in Livonia’s St. Mary’s Hospital in February, 1980, and they’ve embarked on a musical journey ever since. After participating in a variety of separate musical projects, the brothers Brandon have finally put nearly three decades of musical experiences into this dynamic 10-track self-titled album.

The 10 songs that comprise The Anders Orange reflect their creators: the tracks balance easy-to-absorb tangibility with epic depth, achieving enough melody to be memorable without sacrificing the creativity that is sure to satisfy rock fans who want something more. But what will amaze most who listen to the album as a whole is the range of influences -- and therefore sounds -- that the brothers dabble with during the 10-song trip.

Just when the heavy synth groove of “Flow It” finally ceases its pulsing, the strumming alt-rock tones of “Be Today” reflect the style of music Nick & Chris became fascinated with as teenagers. Before you know it, the eight-minute opus “Along the Alpha One” in hitting its spacey stride, which is genre-bending enough to allow Tubeway army and Yes followers to exist in perfect harmony. After the winding percussive chop of “Sleeper / Gluskin,” listeners will find that Chris’ songs can also be stripped down to acoustic guitar and voice with the heartfelt “Plane.” By the time the rhythmic journey known as ‘Swingset” has alas calmed down, listeners will agree that The Anders Orange offers something unique and genuine to the Detroit music scene.
