In February of 1993, Allen Iverson, three of his friends, Simmons, Wynn, and Stephens, were involved in a fight at a bowling alley in Hampton, Virginia. Iverson and his friends were charged with "Maiming By Mob" and went to jail. Stephens got bailed out, so that left Iverson, Simmons, and Wynn behind bars. The community came together to support the young men and formed an organization called SWIS, using the first letter of each of their last names. Under the valiant leadership, and indommitable spirit of Rev. Dr. Marcellus L. Harris, Jr. and others, they rallied and marched to shed light on an incident they believed to be racially motivated. The incident created quite a stir in the Hampton/Newport News, and surrounding areas of the peninsula.
Andre and Linda Wiggins were members of the SWIS Organization. In an effort to support the young men, Andre and Linda decided to write a song called the "SWIS Rap" to use as a fundraiser. The SWIS Rap song did not get off the ground in 1993, but one Sunday morning in September of 2008, at First Baptist Church Morrison, the pastor Rev. Dr. Marcellus Harris made an announcement that a film team was coming to do some footage that may be included in a movie about Allen Iverson and the bowling alley incident. Rev. Harris gave Linda Wiggins the information she needed to contact Steve James, the Oscar nominated film director for Kartemquin Films, also a native of Hampton, Virginia. Under the direction of Steve James on October 26, 2008, Kartemquin Films came to Newport News, Virginia, to the living room of Andre and Linda Wiggins. Steve interviewed Andre and Linda, and listened to the SWIS Rap. He liked the song and stated that they might be interested in using it in the film.
After leaving the living room of Andre and Linda, Steve and the film crew went to cover the Sunday service at First Baptist Church Morrison. In addition to the presence of the Holy Spirit, there was an air of excitement that the Kartemquin Film crew also brought with them. And then it was over. Months passed by at the speed of a turtle as Andre and Linda waited , and waited, and waited, and waited some more. Then finally the letter came saying that Kartemquin Films would like to use part of the SWIS Rap song in the film! Hallelujah, happy day!
So Andre and Linda returned to KR Music Studio, Virginia Beach, Virginia, to work with the creative genius of Kenny "Keys" Robinson. Productions Of Osei, which means "productions of the King", is an Independent Record Label founded by Andre and Linda Wiggins and partners with KR Music Studios.
The film "No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson" will air on April 13, 2010 at 8:00 PM (EST) on ESPN.
