Album Notes

A native of Philadelphia, Andre' N. Jones began writing in the eighth grade, at the bekoning of his English teacher Mrs. Conover. Since then Andre' has gone on to write many poems, a few screenplays and even some music. A devoted husband and father of three, Andre' spends at least an hour each night writing. Andre believes, to quote a phrase from his friend and noted author Charles Fuller, "If writing is what you have to do then you'll finish." "Stories have a way of not letting us rest unless we finish them." Those are the words he reflects on every time he puts pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. Andre' says, "Every story worth telling is worthy of the nightly sacrifice.... It's like putting change in a piggy bank." "You keep putting the work in until one day you have something of worth to work with." Andre' writes about the human condition, science fiction, political buffoonery and comedy. He says he tries to base everything on little stuff. Andre' likes to write about stuff that people skip over, because they're too busy to empathize or even listen to one another. Verbal Light is the first recorded installment of the artist's soul. Andre' prays y'all can feel him as he provides an alternative to fast-food radio and subliminal suggestion. To quote him: "Music and art should set captives free, so be free y'all.... Be free." Verbally Yours, Andre' N. Jones A.K.A. Drizzrod P.S. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 BUZZING: Andre N. Jones Returns with Character Assasination Posted by Rogelio Cruz Andre N. Jones a.k.a, Drizzod brought a unique blend of spoken-word, jazz, soul and hip-hop to the table with his first release, "Verbal Light." The fluid and insightful album of gospel oriented poetry to audiences beyond the spoken-word scene of his native Philadelphia. His use of vocal harmony and interplay on "Pass Me Not" and "Come Ye Disconsolate" and effective use of samples on "Bread" and "Musical Landscapes" takes this CD to a new dimension, beyond the average spoken-word CD where music simply serves as a mask for lack of delivery by the artist. On Jones' effort we find the actual element of composition. On his follow-up, "Character Assassination" demonstrating a more seasoned and sophisticated approach to his studio efforts.
