Album Notes

Andrew Dennen’s spiritual journey is one comprised of harmonies and melodies, of tempo and cadence, of tone and pitch. G-d commands us not only to sing, but to sing new songs. Mr. Dennen has listened to that Commandment and obeyed to the delight of the listener.

This CD is a combination of some new melodies to some very old prayers and some music based on stories from the Torah. Some of the songs/prayers are meant to be sung as a group, as a congregation, together while some are meant to be performed. In either case, the songs contained on this CD will take the listener on a spiritual journey of their own.

I love this CD!

I love this CD! The music is intense and playful, with toe-tapping, complex melodies that are easily learned, hard to forget. From the delicate beauty of the Elohai to a fast-paced and fun re-telling of Noah and the flood in The Promise, Andrew Dennen has skillfully captured both liturgy and kavanah in his debut album. I find his music intelligent and singable, infused with spirit, rhythm and joy. Rich and vibrant, Dennen weaves Sephardic melodies with good old-fashioned rock, driving percussion with gentle lullabies. It’s clear he’s on a journey of renewal and discovery, exploring the themes of tikkun olam, redemption and hope. Luckily, his music is accessible enough to invite us along on this quest.
