Andrew Scott's folky bluesy gypsy, alt-country blend is a unique and exciting sound. His songs are a strange mix of storytelling and eccentric mad ramblings. Imagine Tom Waits, Neil Young, Robert Johnson, Johnny Cash and Cormac McCarthy all mangled up in the same horrifying car crash. Zang!
Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Alberta. In 2002 Andrew moved to Lethbridge Alberta to study music and education at the University of Lethbridge. During this time he ended up being the energetic frontman for a very popular local group called The Turncoats. This group recorded two discs (Bloodrunnin, Teeth Like A Chainsaw) and played at venues and festivals all over Western Canada including The South Country Fair, The Medicine Hat Spectrum Festival, the Lethbridge Folk Club and the Kispiox Valley Music Festival.
In 2001 Andrew's song 'She Don't Want My Money' won first place in the Grande Prairie 97.7 Sun FM songwriting contest.
In 2006 Andrew won best performance at the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting Contest with his song 'Artillery'.
In 2007 Andrew got second place in the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting Contest for his song 'River of Tears'.
In 2007 Andrew graduated from the U of L with a B.Ed/B.Mus and headed off to Japan where he is currently working as an English/Culture teacher with the JET Programme. He has continued an active performance schedule there and has recently completed a brand new new album '13 Birds of Prey', a project recorded in both Canadian and Japanese studios.

If Good Music was a "music genre"

Since when do you get an operatic tenor and a ripping guitarist as a pair of talents to add on to balls out performer. His songs are written with the clarity and vision of an eagle grasping a meal from an icy stream in it's honed talons. In THIS respect "13 Birds of Prey" is aptly named but misses the mark a little because it should be called "16 Birds of Prey" for every song on the CD will take you away, a victim to the melody if you will.
The only "problem" with Andrew Scotts music is that it doesn't fit any cookie cutter press or CD stamper out there. Hey, this is not just about saying to your friends that, "I was into him before anyone know who he was." It's about wanting to listen to good music.
I have to admit that I know Mr. Scott if not briefly but trust me that in no way sways my judgment of this album. I have bought CD's from many of my friends to support them and I threw this one into that pile at first. But, when I put it into the CD player of my car, it stayed there for months; straight! And I go through a lot of music. As a music lover, without hesitation, since the only genre that Andrew Scott really fits is "Good Music" I'd be a liar if I didn't say that any music collection need some of Andrews Swagger.
