Andrew Sherbrooke studied film scoring and composition at Berklee Music, and has over 35 years of experience as a guitar player. "Native Sun" is a collection of pieces written for the pioneering game "People Power: the Game of Civil Resistance" (a turn-based strategy game which allows the player to take on the role of the leader of a nonviolent movement, from filmmaker Steve York and the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict). All performance, composition, and production was done by Andrew. A wide variety of synthesized, sampled, and physical instruments and sound effects were used.
The first five pieces on "Native Sun" are ambient and downtempo compositions featuring multiple instruments. The last four are extended improvisational guitar pieces. This approach was intended to provide the player with distinct choices in mood, but the pieces appear together here as they provide a consistently reflective experience in the listener.
Each piece from the album is paired with a painting by artist Alexis St.John. These will be available for viewing on Andrew's website. Azure Mountain wasn't packaged with the game, and is a bonus track.
