notes
Andrew Smith is an accomplished instrumentalist and singer/songwriter who has been busy playing folk clubs, festivals and house concerts - both as a solo performer and with the popular folk/roots trio Smith Funk & Strauss. In 2004 he opened for some of his musical heroes such as Bruce Cockburn, Ruthie Foster, Gordie Sampson, Martyn Joseph, Pierce Pettis and David Wilcox.
As a solo performer Andrew plays original instrumental pieces as well as songs about his travels and loves (along with the occasional political rant). His first instrumental album, in the style of Don Ross and Michael Hedges, was released April '05.
In 2004, Andrew was nominated for instrumentalist of the year at the Scorpion Entertainment Awards and toured France and Switzerland as an instrumentalist performer.

Escape Velocity
author: Merv FlahrHave loveed his style since first seeing him with 'Smith Funk and Strauss'. His palying is astounding and immidiately reminded me of Michael Hedges and Don Ross, both favorites of mine. If I were to compare, this album is as good and better than both in a lot of ways. The backup musicians are all top notch as well.
WOW ... I was awed by the clear, precise, and originailty of the fingerstyling.
author: Murray EIt is very unusual to buy a CD where all the tracks are just great but this CD tops them all. Something I can listen to over and over again and not get tired off it. You can just get lost in it.
