Andy Conrad & the Bellheads : Everyday Peepholes

It's scruffy white funk. Spaced out songs about small-towns and society. The melodies are memorable, you can bounce to the beats and Andy's singing is both soulful and soothing. Think Beck, Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Badly Drawn Boy, Gome

Album Notes

FALSE ALARMS

false alarms are ringing
another new landscape
of treelines
and powerlines
and gods
and mistakes.

false alarms are singing
an empty sad song
of being misplaced
and displaced
and never being wrong.

about love
about war
about drugs
about star-ars.

freshest jive in a long time

...found it on NPR's All Songs Considered Open Mic section and after one listen I knew I could jam to it. Most original combination of instruments, beats, textures, and emotion I've heard in a bit. Lyrics are very observant and a bit abstract; definitely not stale; at times quirky. A CD you definitely can play the whole way through.

ev'ryday peeples. yikes. what a hit in the head. i was thrown, somewhat offhandedly, artificial junk: "hey nate, you'll like this guy". buy howdy. quirky - but not contrite, solid - but not straightforward, he done kept me listenin'. well lo and behold he's got another long play, this time one about people (the everyday kind). from bottom to top, left to right, a most solid and satisfying listen. this is the freshest stuff to come out of the midwest since , well it's damn fresh. you will not hear anything like this, but it will be lovingly familiar to you after one listen. the songs stick in your head (the good way) and you find yourself repeating your favorite tracks, then repeating the whole disk. songcraft, performance, recording, mastering all first rate. BUY THIS DISK NOW. OR ELSE.
