Imagine it! JS Bach on a good 32-bar tune, blowing chorus after chorus, the
house rocking and everyone flipping as this sweet little simple song blooms out in a thousand
new ways. You get the feeling he could keep it up all night, if not forever. Jazz musicians often
think of Bach as one of our own, but this I think is the only place (excepting perhaps chaconnes
and passacaglias) where he used the kind of form we usually play on. I dreamed for some
years of recording this masterpiece, but never dared try till the summer of 2005. I took some liberties, and in
many ways I have failed him, dear Papa Bach, but you can probably hear what fun I had doing it!
