Album Notes

"Chasing the Sun" is the third release from the Maryland-based pop writer Andy Hawk. He's been writing and recording on an album-a-year clip since his first release in late 2004.

"Chasing the Sun" continues his penchant for sharp, insightful lyrics and adds the element of a frenetic road trip to the musical mix, in evidence on the title track. Others, like "King of Kenosha" and "Strange Hello/Goodbye" tell stories you hope are true, although they're told with tongue implanted in cheek. Both tunes continue the tires-on-the-pavement pace of the title track.

The rest of the album is a nice mix of mid-tempo musings ("What I've Learned", "Now or Never Night", "Kites of April") and ballads dealing with a variety of subjects ("The Saints and the Poets", "Will You Dance With Me", "Stranger to the Ground", "Helium Balloon" and "Minnesota Girl".

It's a road trip album with all highs and lows that accompany a good adventure. Come along for the ride.

"tonight I turn a different corner,
sweeping cobwebs from the moon
I'll dance in snow, a story in footprints
I'm a helium balloon."
