CLOSER has been nominated for the JPF Awards "Best Solo Instrumental Album" 2009.
Swedish-born Andy Salvanos is one of Australia's few active Chapman Stick players.
Originally a bassist, Andy worked as a session musician in Los Angeles for nearly a decade. After moving to Australia in the 90's, he played with Adelaide bands JBE and Earth Dwellers, and also recorded and performed with Archie Roach on "The Tracker" soundtrack.
Since 1988 Andy has played at hundreds of venues including the National Folk Festival (with JBE), The Melbourne Concert Hall (with Archie Roach), The Adelaide Festival Centre (solo) and most of the famous rock music venues in Southern California with various bands.
After a break from professional music, Andy released the CD "Fragments" in 2007, featuring the 10-string Chapman Stick and quickly established himself as a solo performer.
His second album, "Closer", also highlights Andy's simple, effective use of the Stick, featuring elements of classical guitar, folk, Latin and new age music. Having attracted the attention of local media, Andy was invited to play at the Adelaide International Guitar Festival in 2008, where he also hosted a Chapman Stick workshop and was a featured South Australian artist during the event launch. He is also an avid street performer, and can be seen regularly in Adelaide's Rundle Mall or Central Market.

CLOSER (Dec 2007)
With the exception of "Waltz for Beatrix" (looping pedal) and "Tranquility" (synthesizer with overdubs), all Chapman Stick parts were played simultaneously in order to capture the essence of a live performance. "Mind your matter" was recorded live over a bass drum beat, while "Chimborazo" was created in real time on effects pedals. Most tracks were recorded as single takes with minimal editing.
You can also buy Andy's debut album FRAGMENTS (Feb 2007) on CD Baby.
