Angel plays all the instruments on her new self-produced album, "Enigmatic Cover Shot." Lead, slide, fingerpicking guitars chime through these tunes alongside ominous keyboards. These songs are upbeat, yet there's a tinge of melancholy underneath, tugging away, like saying "yeah, I'm happy..." but not quite believing it. Songs like "Fishgirl" have a punk sensibility & playfulness, while "Evolution" is a biting, gnawing tantrum set to music. Psychedelia reigns on "El Nino," this instrumental all done on a Fender Strat, with various melody lines multi-tracked one on top of the other. This is Angel's 4th cd release, and after 20-something years as a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist, she continues to throw herself passionately, headlong, into the art of making music, always challenging herself & her boundaries as an artist.
