Angela just gets better and better!
"Beguiler" sounds more like a band effort than the last album (which is no implied criticism of either) and so marks a definite step forward - or perhaps to the side - for Angela Easterling. However, a 'step forward' implies that, somehow, Angela's previous efforts were lesser affairs. Not so. Angela Easteriing has managed to deliver three stunning albums with each one bringing something new to the table. On "Beguiler" Angela's vocals are as beautiful as ever and Brandon Turner contributes some scorching guitar across the album. As reviewer Galley mentions, song subjects tackle personal and social themes in an incisive yet subtle way, a rare talent. An outstanding modern Americana album with a clear voice of its own, yet with strong lyrical and musical links to what has gone before, this needs to be on any Americana fan's shelves. And with many artists running out of steam by the third album, "Beguiler" hints that Angela has only just begun to show what she's got. Bring on album no.4!

Americana at its finest!
I had the privilege of seeing Angela and the Beguilers perform this album in its entirety, days before its scheduled release date. I knew instantly it was going to be a special album. While "Maria, My Friend" may have been the track that got her selected as a Telluride Troubadour Competition finalist, "Manifest Destiny" is the album's standout track. Like "BlackTop Road" before it, the song was inspired by her family's struggle with losing parts of their farm to commercial development. Interestingly, Angela compares the modern land struggle, with that the Cherokee faced in the 18th century. Guitarist Brandon Turner contributes the terrific lead track, "The Fish & The Bird", and also duets with Angela on "Never Got That Far".
While retaining an overall Americana feel, you'll find elements of pop, rock, country and gospel mixed throughout "Beguiler". With one great song after another, you will no doubt be listening to it over and over again.
