Angela Johnson is one undenieble "CREATIVE BEING"!
First off, where does one begin? This is just too incredible for mere words. And to think, this was her debut "SOLO" CD. Whew! Just awesome! All of these songs are filled with so much heart & soul...so much passion.
I have said this before & I don't mind repeating myself here, with each of these songs, you can definetly here "Ms. Johnson's" musical influences. But that's just where she leaves it! It is just wonderfully refreshing to hear how a fellow "Artist" can be inspired, moved, motivated by all creative artists "old & new" without just out-right biting someone else's works! Don't get me wrong when U listen to this CD U will definetly go down "Memory Lane"...with tid-bits of "Stevie Wonder" "EW&F", "Al Green", "Sly & The Family Stone", "Sergio Mendez" & a host of others. But when U listen to these songs U will see that "Angela Johnson" honors these artists with "respect & admiration". This woman ain't playin' when it comes to her musicianship either. Oh don't get it twisted, tha' girl can definetly "play" her "ass" off! She ain't takin' no prisnors y'all! She bringin' tha' heat yo! Slowin' down tha' "fire" a lil bit is one of my many fave's here "Call"!
Whew, this one really touched me to tha' soul! What an incredible tribute to your Mother Angela!! Of course she picks the groove right back up with with a joint venture with "DJ Spinna" & "Eric Krasnow" from "SouLive" fame. On this sizzelin' hot trk. called "Money Don't Grow On Trees".
These three blow tha' roof off tha' mutha'! Man, between tha' drum trk. & a wicked bass line. But just when U think things couldn't get any uglier...Angela slips in with a slick but fierce vocal & storyline. (And Angela adding those "Andrew Sisters" type background vocals on the break is pure genius/Angela, "EnVogue" would "kill" for this here song!) Don't sit on this lady, tell eeerrrrybody U know, there's a new "Sheriff" in town...& her name is "Angela Johnson" b!

The title of this cd typifies today's music market, where incredible artists like Angela Johnson thrive in the underground scene, and artists with far more less talent hit the big time. Well,if you have enough musical sense in you then, you should go out and support this artist of such immense talent.Johnson's material is what the real deal should be,but we know that what the big wigs have been offering music consumers for the last couple of years has been nothing but bubble yum.Alicia Keys is good in her own rights as an artist, but in my views,Johnson is a whole lot better.
