If Angela Johnson were a man, she'd probably be one of the most revered producer/songwriters in today's market place. As it is, the music industry is still largely dominated by men; and though folks would like to profess that gender is irrelevant, the truth is, it isn't. Angela Johnson is the truth.

Born and raised in Utica New York, Angela has been making music practically her whole life. A musical child prodigy, Angela began playing the piano by ear at the tender age of four. At age 9 she was introduced to the violin. Like many of her contemporaries, Angela received most of her musical experience in the church, where as a teenager she served as church organist and choir director. Angela later applied these experiences to gain admission to the State University Of N.Y. at Purchase as a violin major. While attending S.U.N.Y., Angela developed an ear for studio production, and discovered her talent as a performance artist. Her underlying love for R&B and Soul, ultimately lead Angela to join together with fellow S.U.N.Y. student Christian Urich (Tortured Soul) to form the legendary R&B band, Cooly's Hot Box. Cooly's has been together for over a decade now, and they've recorded and released several dance floor classics ("What A Surprise," "Make Me Happy," "We Don't Have To Be Alone") as well as two albums, "Take It" (2002 Higher Octave/Virgin), "Don't Be Afraid, Get On" (2004 Purpose).

Angela's multifaceted talent as producer/songwriter/singer has allowed her to collaborate with such notable artist as Maysa Leak "All Day Long" (writer), Rahsaan Patterson "Dream Flight" (producer/co-writer), Gordon Chambers "Get Away" (producer/co-writer), Laurnea "No Shame" (producer/co-writer), Reel People "Can't Stop" (vocalist/co-writer), Monét "Wanna Kiss You" (producer/co-writer) and Seek "Journey Into Day" (co-writer) to name a few. In 2001 Angela wrote and produced the top ten hit "Angel" for Japanese R&B superstar, Double, selling more than 500,000 copies. Angela has also produced remixes for Jimmy Sommers feat. Macy Gray ("Love life") and Donnie ("Cloud 9") with DJ Spinna.

Angela's music has been prominently featured on UPN's "Kevin Hill" (Taye Diggs), FX's "The Shield" (Michael Chiklis) and The WB's "Roswell." In April 2005 SBC Global.net (AT&T/Cingular) launched a Television Ad campaign for there DSL service, that features Angela Johnson and Cooly's hot-box as the centerpiece of the commercial, complete with visual clips of the band performing the song, "Lose Your Friends."

"Got To Let It Go" is the highly anticipated follow up to Angela's critically acclaimed solo debut CD "They Don't Know," This twelve track journey through Angela's childhood musical influences, is destined to become a classic. For someone so incredibly self-contained, Angela wields an easy hand with her tracks, relying on smart lyrics and arrangements to get her point across. She never seems to be showing off. She is sincere and confident enough to let her music speak for itself without being trendy.
No question, Angela owes a debt to such '70's soul elements as solid melodies, heartfelt vocals, ditto for '80's technology like drum and keyboard programming, used liberally throughout the CD.

"Got To Let It Go" includes stellar contributions from Angela's band members Trevor Holder (drums), Justin Wallace (bass), Jeremy James (guitar & vocals), Lisala Beatty (vocals) and Tricia Angus (vocals). Other special guests include Jacques Schwartz-Bart (saxophone and flute), Matt Schulman (trumpet), Ernesto Abreu (percussion), Monét (flute and vocals) and Pauline Kim (violin).

Angela's musical craft emanates and expresses the true musicianship that is lacking so often these days from some of her "pseudo soul" commercial brothers and sisters. Make no mistake, Angela Johnson is the real deal!

    A SOLID throwback to the heyday of MUSIC where the ARTIST was the producer, musician, performer and writer. She should be out there but her music isn't the 'commercial' sound that is favored now but she is, at least, as good a talent as Alicia Keys.

    Stumbled upon Angela playing on a Bose iPod player at Bj's Wholesale. Since then I am hooked. I listen to her cd's insesantly. Amazing voice, outstanding lyrics and music. You must have all her music, it grabs you by the short and curly's and doesn't let go.

    Actually I'll give it 4 1/2 stars. This is the most entertaining CD I've listened to in about 3 years, and I'm pretty hard on music. I enjoyed this CD so much I went and ordered her previous CD (They Dont Know...yep its jammin too!) All I have to say is this is whats missing in todays music! It seems like everytime I get a favorite, I go to the next song and the next one is hotter than the last. there is not 1 fast-forward song on here! I'm an instant fan! listen for yourself and I PROMISE youll tell people about it. THIS is what Grammy material sounds like. Its way past time for QUALITY music like this!! If you like songs with purpose, melody, and subject matter get this disc!! Unless of course you want some more of the 1/2 naked Beyonce/Maria/Brittney clones that we get forced on us daily.

I orginally heard it on the HBO series "The Wire" "Nathan come home" I said to myself "WoW" I Love this "Song"..The Voice, The Bass, The drums, Piano, The song is a master piece!.     I'm from Utica, Born and raised. You may not remember me but I went to school with Laquan at proctor and My brother went to school with Jamal. We used to get dropped off over your house in the morning to get a ride to school from you mother. This is such a breath of fresh air to hear something so soulfull and clean. Music is so watered down and un-natural, and the lyrics seem to not be as important to a song as they used to be untill now... Angela you doing the damn thing to the fullest. I want to congradulate you, My father Lonnie Brown, says to tell your father hello for him. We are in GA now but my mom Geraldine moved to Syracuse with my brother Tyson.. Give your family my blessing and keep on, keeping on....I pray you and your family stay blessed..

    angela johnson is by far & large one of the entertainment industry's premiere all around talents. refusing to be pigeon-holded into one single genre "angela" (or miss johnson if you're nasty) rules in a variety of styles & musical attitudes. an expert producer/writer/arranger/musician/programmer/vocalist/sonic engineer/mixer. but if these many hats weren't enough, check this out, more impressive than the ones i just ran by you all, "angela" is also a wife & a mother ta boot! whew, believe me when i say, this woman does it all!! but just on a creative level, "angela johnson" is in a class all by herself, but has taken the proverbial baton from other creative women of the past..."patrice rushen, angela winbush, teena marie, and a few others and ran with the ball. her current cd/album is "off tha' meat rack"! there isn't a weak cut on this cd. my particular fave right now is: "all i need". but, don't stop at this project, be sure to go back to her first cd which is nothing short of incredible! being a creative scientist myself, i wanna tell u, that u won't be disappointed at all. whatever u do, don't let "angela johnson" be the one u slept on! this is a "nova supa' star"! bzo! courtesy of: july 13th. entertainment & soundworks, inc.

    Tody's R&B is in such bad shape, it all sounds alike, canned music, she writes and sings of love and life.Todays artist use sex as a selling point, it's cheap and over used. I also like the fact that she uses drums..not the drum machine, man I hate those things. I've turned some friends of mine on to her and Cooley's Hot Box..they were very satisfied.     Wow.......I liked this lady with Cooly's Hot Box, but on her own she's even better. Her song writing and producing skills really excel on this second solo cd. "I'll Always" gets a lot of airplay on our station. Vocally it's good and musically it's good. This is definately one cd you want to have.

    This is not a good record . It is a classic . Every cut is fantastic . " On my way " is off da hook " .I am lovin " i'll always " and "let's get together" , slammin. Great Rnb , soul .Soul music is Back. Reminds me of a female Stevie Wonder mixed with some Alicia Keys .

    Now, this is music! You have to get this CD.HOME AWAY FROM HOME is the jam to reckoned with. Woman makes me want to start singing again. TELL ME, gave me an intimate look at her as a woman who needs to know. YOU'RE HERE WITH ME reminds me of someone who I wil not name, but Angela brings back some truly good musicianship that is so needed in R&B music today! GOT TO LET IT is moving and settling in its arrangements. Angela Johnson is a must buy (I wish I could put that in bold). I will order mine today! Angela Johnson, Whew! It's about Time!

Real feel, and real songwriting, like she acutally sat down and charted some notes on paper! I'm loving every track.
