Album Notes

NU bop Records is a new jazz label created by Achille Silipo and Giorgio Mortarino long time jazz addicts, with the help of Riccardo Cigolotti.
Nu bop Records will go on mainly with the music of actual afro-american avant-jazz scene.

This first album UOTHA - pronounce water- is a live recording by the Italian guitar player Paolo Angeli and the American drummer Hamid Drake.

Recorded on September 4, 2004 at the Sardinian festival " Ai confini tra Sardegna e jazz" held in Sant'Anna Arresi (XIX edition) Uotha is an intense performance with many peaks by two master of folklore and improvised music.
The interplay between the Angeli's Sardinian prepared guitar and the Drake's drumming is vibrant delight: a soulful meeting of outstanding musicians.
Angeli is a young Sardinian from Palau (Sassari).
He plays a prepared guitar of his own invention.
Improvisation, Sardinian folklore and Fred Frith are the roots of his unprecedented music.
Drake come from Monroe, Louisiana, a "nomad" living in Chicago.
Played with Don Cherry, Fred Anderson, Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, David Murray, Mandingo, Griot Galaxy, Ken Vandermark and William Parker.
To be considered the best drummer on the scene.

absolutely amazing

This is truly some of the best music I've ever heard, made by two of the most interesting people in the world. There's no superlative too grand for the exchange of mind and soul here, captured beautifully, an instant classic.
