Bristol based and aptly named, Angel Tech is one of the UK’s best kept secrets. Imagine Death Cab For Aphex Twin shoegazing poolside on a spring evening with a jug of ice cold lemonade and lime on hand. Closer ‘The Jukebox Will Tear Us Apart’ cleverly lists influence by way of a compilation list from an assumed ex whilst ‘Compatible’ feels like the teariest ejaculation. Shimmeringly beautiful and lyrically savvy without ever sounding slack, this, their sixth release, is not one to overlook. Makes me want to cry tears of unabashed joy.

TECHNO POP EXPERIMENTALISMS, FROM THE ODDLY BRILLIANT BRISTOL THREEPIECE.
Coming across like a slightly odder, darker and more British ‘Postal Service’, it is almost impossible not to fall head over heels, totally and utterly in love with this bunch of mental ambient pop crafting mentalists.
Over the course of the opening three songs I was tapping my feet along and humming the floaty, subversive keyboard parts, and starting to badly harmonise with the obscure and ambivalent lyrics. The Harmonies, the music, the imagery… everything - absolutely everything about this band is loveable. Even the miserable woman on the cover is hot and eye catching and totally lovely. If the band had manufactured this image as a tool to help them have more substance, than bloody hell, good work - it worked a charm - as the package is superbly given to the listener, like a good story building up a sense of structure and legend with each added element.
From the miserable lady on the cover, to the mournful lyrics, to the almost jack-in-the-box melodies that permeate almost all the songs, it’s the sound of a band who know EXACTLY what they are doing, and make you the listener one of the characters in a story they unwind and give to you over the entire 9 songs on this special album.
Angel tech have made an album here that works because it is simple, effective and to the point, the music is easy to listen to, the lyrics are brilliantly sombre and self depreciating, the vocals are mournful yet full of quiet hope, its an album of pinnacle after pinnacle after pinnacle… building and building into one giant collection of 9 supremely wonderful songs that will be played and replayed over and over again on the stereos of toffee nosed know-it-all students, music snobs and average Joes for years to come…
If and only if they are brave enough to take a chance on this magnificent little gem of a band. If, by some wonder of the imagination, you haven’t got the hint so far… go and buy this now, and fall in love with these three blokes from Bristol and their magical music, just like I did. And for Gods sake, do it now!

HELL THINKS YOU’RE TROUBLE - Angel Tech “Angel Tech” (Brain-Gel).
Dense and intense. Black, bleak and relieved with humour, sweet vox and a handy tendency to confuse Enya with Donderevo. This means that there’s gentle feedbacking, appropriate and artistic synth use, instruments played by people who can actually play them, rather than just hit them at regular intervals and while I’m knocking this shit out Angel Tech are spinning complex webs of sound with simple instrumentation on “Compatible”, the everyday tale of a chalk n cheese relationship that seems to be working out fine, thanks for asking. Joy Division fanatics (come on, the diminutive doesn’t work with those fuckers) will slouch away to the news that “The Jukebox Will Tear Us Apart” is nothing to do with the other tearing apart track. Not at all, the Angel Tech ‘Tear’ track is one of sharp changes smoothed by keyboards that incite melodic disintegration while slicking it’s passage, like an air hostess blowing you as the Queasy jet goes into it’s terminal spin. This is sci-fi music magic and it’s very cool.
