Album Notes

The emotions in Anie's music speaks for themselves. Writing both in English and Mandarin, her strength as singer-songwriter is in the composition of her lyrics, where she explores human nature through the art of storytelling. She weaves together themed elements to convey a hidden, often simple heartfelt message, similar in the ways of Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and Imogen Heap, who are all big influences on her work, musically and stylistically.

Anie first started recording demos in her own home, mainly to keep a record of music that she had written, occasionally submitting songs into songwriting competitions. In 2007, Anie submitted a homemade video of an original song to a video competition hosted by independent label Hummingbird Music; she would come to win the competition and be signed to the label as a recording artist. Anie would spend her following three years with Hummingbird Music playing regularly at music live houses, clubs, bars, cafes, and outdoor festivals around Taipei, exploring different ways to bring her music to light.

In 2009, Anie went to compete in the sixth seasons of CTV’s SuperStar Millionaire (超級星光大道) after a suggestion from a friend. Anie is most remembered for the high score she received for performing her original song “Write a Song” (“想寫首歌”), and for the wig she wore during her first appearance on the show. After elimination from the show, Anie decided to take some time off to study music and work on producing her own album.

She is currently studying at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California.
