As one of Canada's most popular country artists, Anita's accomplishments in the industry are nothing short of remarkable. With 10 top 10 singles and 3 hits that went to number one on the Canadian Country Music charts, she has established a proven track record of bringing her fans what they want to hear. Just a few of the appearances that have made Anita so popular are:
* That Country Feelin was hosted by Anita for 8 years on the Mid-Canada Television Network (MCTV). This show was awarded the Canpro Award for excellence in programming and community service among independent Canadian TV Programmers.
* The Glen Campbell Silver Anniversary Tour (1992) was opened by Anita and her band for 13 performances throughout England.
* The Tommy Hunter Show - Here Anita was a regular cast member for two years as well as featured guest many times during the time the show was aired.
Anita has also opened for such performers as George Jones, The Oakridge Boys, Don Williams, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Charlie Pride, Willie Nelson, and she shared the stage with Shania Twain early on in her own successful career. In the recent past, Anita and her band appeared regularly at the Kewadin Casinos, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, performing all of her own hits along with the classic songs of Patsy Cline and Connie Francis and the more current hits of Tanya Tucker and Faith Hill. More recently Anita has been performing at Casino Rama, in Orillia, Ontario.
The Awards
In 1985 she won the Country Music News Fan Award and that set the stage for what was to come. In 1986 & 1987 Anita won Female Vocalist of the Year and in 1988, she won Single of the Year with One Smoky Rose. Anita, along with Tim Taylor, won Duo of the Year in 1984, 85, 86, and 87. Anita has been nominated five times by the CCMA for Female Vocalist of the Year. Other nominations from CCMA include: Album of the Year - Way Beyond The Blue and Single of the Year for Tips Of My Fingers. She has also been nominated for a Juno Award for the Most Promising Female Vocalist and Country Female Vocalist of the Year. She has won the Dutch Country Music Award Female Vocalist of the Year and RPM Big Country Award Female Vocalist three times.
New Release : Think Again
Anita has enjoyed much success in Canada and is currently recording under her own independent label Pine Ridge Music. She remains consistently in high demand as an accomplished Country vocalist with all major recording houses and still finds the time to tour both in Canada and Europe, traveling overseas to perform for Multinational Peace-Keeping troops in Egypt and Israel and most recently performing as the feature act at the Human Spirit Concert in collaboration with the Sudbury Multicultural and FolkArts Association in aid of South East Asia tsunami victims at Laurentian University in Sudbury.
In the fall of 2004, Anita released You Should Dream in Europe and the US as the first single from her new CD titled Think Again. The single received airplay in 18 countries and enjoyed top 20 status in 6 countries on the European Country Music Association charts. The second single, Crystal Teardrops also received top 20 status in 7 countries and went right to number 1 in Germany, Spain and in the U.S. on the Indie World Country Record Report Chart from April 8th through the 14th 2005. Excellent performances of new songs written by Sonny Fertile and Mike Pilon
author: Pete SmithPosted by Pete Smith on March 15, 2005 at 07:50:07: Pete Smith’s Reviews – “The Advertiser” (UK) 11 March 2005 Anita Perras “Think Again” (Comstock). Five times nominated “Female Vocalist of the Year” by the CCMA Anita shows just why is such hot property in her native Canada and beyond with these ten carefully chosen songs. Excellent performances of new songs written by Sonny Fertile and Mike Pilon; “You Should Dream”, “Tomorrow” and “Crystal Teardrops” blend beautifully with classic covers of John D. Loudermilk’s “Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye”, Gene Autry’s “That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine”, Harlan Howard’s “I’ll Take Care Of You” and the Johnny Ray hit “Cry”.
An Oustanding Comback CD for Canada's Queen of Country
author: Country Music NewsCD Review - ANITA PERRAS - Think Again ANITA PERRAS Think Again Pine Ridge Music Produced by: Frank Woodcock (10 Selections - Playing Time 35:57) Think Again / Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye / You Should Dream / Tomorrow / Rain Or Shine / Crystal Teardrops / Another Thing I Can't Do / That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine / I'll Take Care Of You / Cry There was a day when Anita Perras was Canada's premiere country female artist, winning Female Vocalist Of the Year back-to-back in 1986-87 and Duo of The Year winner (with former husband Tim Taylor) for four successive years (1985-1988). The Sudbury-bred vocalist is likely best remembered for her chart-topping hit One Smokey Rose, (1988 Single and Song Of The Year) penned by Tim Taylor. But that was 'yesterday'. Many of today's radio listeners will not be familiar with the voice of Anita Perras... this is her first studio album in some 12 years. Not to worry...Anita Perras still sounds great !! Think Again is chock full of great tunes, new and old. Some of the new material has already been released to radio internationally on the U.S. Comstock Records compilations, with the singles You Should Dream and the current release Crystal Teardrops, both penned by Mike Pilon and Sonny Fertile, who are heavily involved with different aspects of this 'comeback' album, including creative partnership on a third tune, Tomorrow. Anita Perras also dips into the Tim Taylor songbook for a couple of new tunes, including the album's title track, love song Think Again, and Rain Or Shine, which is easily one of the highlight picks of the album. The song was co-written by Taylor with Rising Canuck star Samantha King, and it has a 'Patsy Cline'-feel that Anita Perras is so adept at capturing. The album also has some interesting 'nuggets', not the least of which is the old country/folk classic That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine, popularized first by Gene Autry back in the 40's, and covered since by everyone from the Everly Brothers to Wilf Carter. Anita Perras has always been able to sing Country/Pop classics with the best in the biz, and she proves the point here with her powerful rendition of Cry, initially a 50's Pop hit for Johnnie Ray, and also later 'countryfied' by Lynn Anderson and Tammy Wynette. Also from the 'classic' list is a great version of Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye, the John D. Loudermilk tune that has been a chart hit over the decades for Eddy Arnold, Johnny Tillotson and more recently Neal McCoy. Someone has also latched onto an obscure Harlan Howard song in I'll Take Care Of You. How this great country ballad has remained buried in the Harlan Howard songbook is a mystery, but all the better for Anita Perras. It has the potential of being a smash 'comeback' hit for the lady... provided of course that Canadian country radio does its part. Think Again was produced by Frank Woodcock and recorded at Sideman Studios in Oshawa, Ontario.
This is the best new traditional country CD I have heard
